Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristan Steimel.
Hi Cristan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Certified Care Manager.
I graduated with honors from Lamar University with a Master of Education Degree in Counseling and Human Development. I have been working in the field of care management for over 15 years, specializing in children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities as well as chronic medical conditions.
My story began as an intern at Spindletop Center during my senior year of college and was hired as a Waiver Program Coordinator upon graduation. Spindletop Center provides services for those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in the Beaumont, Texas area. During my time in graduate school for counseling I provided therapy for youth at risk and to those in the correctional system. During the pandemic I began to explore the option of providing therapy virtually and offered services through platforms like SonderMind, BetterHelp, and Headway.
As a care manager at Life Care Consultants, Inc. for over 12 years, I have helped many of my clients learn how to navigate the system and obtain the supports they need. During that time, I’ve also identified the service gaps that people with disabilities still experience in our system, including the lack of mental health counselors that focus on this population.
I grew up with a younger cousin who had several physical disabilities, introducing me to the difficulties people often face at a young age. During my senior year of high school, my grandmother developed Alzheimer’s, and we watched her dementia slowly progress, I assisted in taking care of her when not in school. During college I was introduced to the Best Buddies program which pairs college students to “buddies” in the community with disabilities. Not long after I joined, I was appointed as the President and responsible for recruiting new participants. This afforded me the opportunity to attend the Best Buddies Leadership Conference in Indiana during my senior year. The Best Buddies Leadership Conference unites Best Buddies leaders, volunteers, and community advocates from around the globe to imagine, create, lead, and empower the future of disability rights and inclusion. This further ignited my passion for this area!
Limitless Life Counseling, PLLC was formed in 2024 with a focus on Special Needs Counseling, with one child diagnosed with ADHD, and another child diagnosed with Autism in mind. I believe that both my lived and professional experience have an impact on my approach with each individual/family and their unique situation. I strive to provide the right environment for my clients to feel accepted, valued, and empowered!
Together we will work together to identify the best approach for you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road; I often face barriers to getting people the help that they need. Not to mention there are not many therapists or programs that focus on special populations.
We’ve been impressed with Limitless Life Counseling Services, PLLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Both my personal and professional life has intersected, I have the unique ability to meet people and families where they are.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Going to the lake with my family on the weekends, just spending time together.
