Daily Inspiration: Meet Marlene Watts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Watts.

Marlene Watts

Hi Marlene, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began with a deep passion for movement and an unmatched drive to simply be great. I’ve always been an extremely hard worker with a tenacious spirit, so taking risks, pursuing my heart’s desires, and persevering with excellence have always been at the core of my being. I’ve also always been my own greatest competition, and I believe that I have gotten to where I am today because of this fiery passion inside of me that refuses to settle or quit no matter how many setbacks, delays, or distractions I come up against.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My greatest struggle has always been overcoming fear and doubt. Being an artist and entrepreneur requires an unwavering faith because you’re creating your own path from a vision in your head and hope in your heart. It requires you to be bold and courageous every time you share your work with the world. I’ve learned to put my faith in God and trust what He’s gifted and called me to do. Staying on assignment keeps me focused, but it took years to get to that foundational principal that with Him, I can do all things.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do many things – I plan events and provide individuals with health and wellness coaching. I support small business organizations with strategies to promote efficiency. I organize people, things, and time, but my absolute favorite thing to do is to make you sweat in a work out class or perform albeit dancing on a stage or acting in various local film/tv projects. Currently, I can be spotted on Channel 13 in a Village Plumbing & Electric commercial, but over the recent years, I have won the Dancing w/the Houston Stars title (‘23), as well as the Houston Chronicle’s Top Fitness Pro (‘22)! I specialize in dance and fitness. I am an alumna of High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where I earned my BFA in Dance. I also hold a Master’s degree in Dance Education from Hunter College. I am a former educator of 15+ years, and I am known for teaching a movement experience that is rooted in purpose and intention. I believe what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about others, I encourage others to be self-aware/authentic, and I give 1000%!

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Journal for clarity. Take the risks. Have faith the size of a mustard seed! Ignore the noise (even if it’s in your own head).
