Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Torres Isaza.
Hi Martin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, I am Martín Torres Isaza, a Colombian immigrant who arrived in Houston several years ago, with all the desire to keep growing, both professionally and personally.Since I arrived, this city has given me so much. I have found a place full of kind, hardworking people with big hearts, and little by little I have had the fortune of surrounding myself with people who have offered me their friendship and support in every project I have undertaken.I am a professional in industrial engineering, and throughout my career, I have developed skills that have allowed me to motivate, inspire, and accompany leaders and individuals who want to give a more positive meaning to their lives. And that, without a doubt, has become one of my greatest passions.I firmly believe that when you share positivity, you not only transform your surroundings but also multiply the energy and hope in others.
My love for writing was born in my adolescence. In my free time, I loved to let my imagination fly by writing poems and stories about love, heartbreak, and adventures. Since then, I dreamed of writing and publishing a book, but the daily routine and work responsibilities put that dream on pause. At the beginning of last year, life presented me with an important challenge: a delicate health situation that forced me to stop and go through a recovery process of almost nine months. At first, it was difficult, but over time I understood that this pause was a disguised opportunity. It was then that I decided it was time to fulfill that dream I had always had.Writing my book became a therapy, a way to heal and reconnect with myself. Every word helped me see things from a different perspective, to value what is truly important, and to maintain a positive attitude in the face of difficulties. From that experience came the inspiration for its theme and title: “Positivism for Beginners.”
In my personal and professional experience, I’ve faced many difficult moments, and they have shown me how a shift in mindset can deeply impact our ability to overcome challenges, stay motivated, and achieve our goals. My goal is to be that small but meaningful contribution that supports people in their personal, spiritual, and professional growth.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life has taught me that when you want to achieve something, you have to be prepared to face many challenges and obstacles before reaching your goal. I have experienced this since my childhood. I was a blessed child, adopted by wonderful parents who filled me with love and shaped me into a good human being. They always emphasized to me that in life I would encounter difficult situations, but what mattered was knowing how to face them, keeping faith, and never giving up.
This literary journey has not been easy, but it has been very rewarding. I have done everything in a self-taught way: from choosing a topic that truly connects with people—not just my friends, but everyone I want to reach with my book—to managing the editing, printing, English translation, and promotion.I have also taken care of seeking advice, finding readers, making myself known on social media, and gradually learning how this whole world works. It has been an enriching experience that has not only allowed me to grow but also to find new ideas and stories that I want to continue sharing.
If I have learned anything, it is that there are always opportunities to improve. In my case, I am working on strengthening the promotion side, because I am just beginning to discover the power of social media and everything it can do to take a positive message to every corner of the world.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At the moment, I’m working part-time for a large supermarket company here in Houston. The rest of my time I spend attending to some clients from my “Martin’s Mobile Car Wash” service, and of course, I continue dedicating time to my passion—writing.I’m currently writing lyrics for songs; I already have three compositions with copyright, and I’m also working on my second book, a very interesting story that I hope to have available for readers very soon.I am also preparing a trip to Colombia in the first months of next year to give some motivational talks and continue promoting my book. I consider myself a person with a vocation for service, enthusiastic, cheerful, grateful, full of love, and always willing to contribute to the development and personal growth of all those who are part of my environment
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have so many people I want to thank for their support, both in my life and in the publication of this book. I ‘ve been lucky to have amazing friends and mentors along the way.
Especialy my parents, Olimpo and Haydeé, who taught me human values and how to face challenges with a positive mindset. I know they are smiling from heaven at my achievements.
I also want to thank my aunt Alicia, who recently passed away, but left me an incredible example of strength, positivism, and love for life.To my family, always giving me their love and unconditional support, especially my cousin Mario,Brittany and Adriana here in Houston. I thank Alejandra Escobar for her professionalism and support in editing my book in English.
My deepest gratitude to my friends and almost brothers, Julio, Hugo, and their respective families, for all their support, especially during my most difficult times.
I can’t fail to mention my friends here in Houston, who have always been there for me whenever I’ve had to start over, offering their support and sincere friendship, especially Connie, Juan Carlos, and Gustavo .To my teachers from adolescence, who sparked my love for reading and my curiosity to learn new things. And, of course, my life partner, who encourages me in every creative idea. Even when her critiques are a little sharp, they always help me stay focused and keep moving toward my goals.
There are so many people who celebrate my achievements with me, and for that, I feel deeply grateful.
Something very important: I am a person of strong faith. I’ve always felt that God has blessed me in every aspect of my life. That’s why I start each day with gratitude… thankful for what I have, for who I am, and for the people around me.I believe happiness comes from recognizing the good we have and sharing it, helping others whenever we can.Because when you live with gratitude and positivism, everything around you starts to flourish.
And I want to thank you, too, for giving me the opportunity to share my story and offer my book to this wonderful community here in Houston.
