Rising Stars: Meet Jalen Hadnot of Third ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalen Hadnot.

Hi Jalen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been an artist all my life, really. I was born and raised in Chicago, a city full of creators, so my artistic nature has always been welcomed by my environment. During college, I would sell pieces here and there to make ends meet, and somewhere along the way, I just never stopped. Learning has honestly pushed me to where I am today. The more I learn, the more I am inspired to create. I’ve been a lifelong X-Men fan, so somewhere along the way I decided to merge my two great loves, and it’s been a blast ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely! Like I mentioned earlier, I started when I was in college, so there was always a struggle to find a balance and time to create. Sometimes all I’d want is to pick up a paintbrush, but I’m stuck in classes all day or working a side gig. Currently, a big challenge for me is overcoming creative blocks and finding other creative activities that really push and inspire me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make really cool paintings! Recently, I have gotten into doing more traditional paintings by hand, but most of my work is digital. I’m probably most known for a cool self-project I posted on my socials. It’s a cool little fashion book featuring characters of the Marvel universe. The nerds on Twitter loved it lol. I am most proud of my degree. I obtained it in the last few years, and it genuinely is a highlight of my life. There are very few people who have had the opportunity to leave my hometown and see the world, so I never take that for granted. I think my determination and stubbornness sets me apart from most people. I get an idea in my head, and I just work until it’s mine.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If you enjoy fun and cool art, interact with me on the socials! I would love the attention lol. If you’re interested in a piece or a commission, dm me! You can find me on Instagram and X (the artist formerly known as Twitter).
