Check Out Kelly Hall’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Hall.

Hi Kelly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2013 the Tomball Renewal Center was acquired by a new board and Executive Director, and was an answer to the prayer and dreams of the community. We purchased our building on Main Street in 2015 and built out our restaurant, ReBar Cafe and Juicestillery, with a mission and purpose to engage and welcome people from all walks of life to have a place and a people to belong to while experiencing the transformational love and healing of God.

Our ministry facilitates a variety of ways to begin and continue recovery work through weekly groups, one on one spiritual direction sessions, our Sunday church, Return, as well as workshops and retreats. We host a community refrigerator at the back of our building where the community can support those who are facing food scarcity, and we partner with other local churches and organizations to help connect people to resources wherever possible.

ReBar Cafe and Juicestillery is a town favorite that boasts a 100% gluten free breakfast and lunch menu, our own original cold pressed juice blends, and the finest of locally roasted coffee. As part of our mission, we feed everyone regardless of their ability to pay. We have gladly served 7,000+ meals since 2018 when we opened our doors to our unhoused neighbors and low income families, inviting those who are able to pay forward meals to share in the love.

Hurt people hurt people. That is a fact. Our hope is to walk alongside one another toward a recovered, life-worth-living life because if the former is true, then we also believe that healed people heal people.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There is never a dull moment at The Renewal Center and ReBar. Our worst assumption would be that we’ve seen or heard it all. The truth is, you never really know what is going on beneath the surface of someone, and that is true even about yourself. People come to TRC and ReBar to recover connection to God, themselves, and community. As devastating as some stories are, we find that a faithful community can bear them together.

Over the years, we have had to learn to be shaped by the needs of the community while remaining deeply rooted in our core beliefs and principles founded on our experience of God’s love being bigger than we ever imagined. Even as our cafe thrives, and our community is growing, the needs of the community outmeasure the financial funding coming in. Especially in times where non-profits are all struggling to afford even their day-to-day operation expenses.

Regardless, we each in leadership at TRC and ReBar know that we know we are blessed to be given the opportunity to give and receive love as we are made to do, and witness lives (including our own!) fall open within the heart of God and experience transformation. And we continue to invite those whose lives have been touched in similar ways to take part by financially partnering with our mission.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am one of the Directors of The Renewal Center and am a trauma informed Spiritual Director. I work with people one on one and in group settings to gain insight into what may be blocking connection to God, to discovering and knowing their highest potential, and in their relationships. However, I have also personally healed through modalities such as writing, art, prayer and meditation, exercise, nutrition, enneagram wisdom, personal spiritual pilgrimages, and inner child work, so I continue to pass on what I have learned through those experiences, inviting others to discover their own creative way to heal.

I am known for facilitating the type of hospitality that welcomes honesty into the room, the kind of honesty that initiates healing.

I am most proud of my work as a co-creator of The Renewal Center and ReBar. I have worn many hats over the years, each one its own custom degree program that helped shape me into a leader that knows she is fallible, remains teachable, and longs to create dignity and beauty in what can sometimes be a hard, hard world. I have used my creativity across the board from making room for the marginalized to co-visioning retreats and workshops to crafting our signature cold juice blends.

I love my staff, every single person here brings their giftedness into the work, making TRC and ReBar one of the most beloved spots in Tomball. We are known for our hospitality, generosity, and values. There is love in everything we do, and given to every person who walks through our doors. There is simply no place like The Renewal Center and ReBar, we are one of a kind.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
What really comes in handy as a facilitator is my ability to remain in the present moment, listen deeply, utilize creativity to be solution-mindedness, and see and hold hope in the wholeness of people who are experiencing heartbreak, emotional distress, mental overwhelm, spiritual fracture, and physical pain.

I believe what keeps me (and any facilitator, truly) clear and able to step into facilitating others is a continued commitment to my own recovery work and healing journey. As a whole, our staff is actively involved in their own recovery programs with peer support and accountability. We work our programs for our own sanity and health first, and that work overflows into the health of the community.
