Inspiring Conversations with Sarah Davis of My Functional Smile

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Davis.

Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career journey began simply, rooted in the dental field. Starting as a sterilization technician at 19, I worked my way up to a dental assistant, eventually pursuing higher education to become a licensed dental hygienist in 2012. For many rewarding years, I practiced in various pediatric dental settings, focused on foundational oral health.

The pivotal moment arrived after the birth of my second child. Like many parents, I was attuned to subtle health challenges, and this led me to discover the world of myofunctional therapy (OMT). As I researched, the science behind it resonated immediately. I realized that basic functions like breathing and proper tongue posture are not just dental concerns—they have a profound, cascading impact on a person’s entire well-being, influencing everything from sleep quality to mental focus and physical health. It was a realization that felt like connecting missing dots.

This insight created an intense desire to help families beyond the scope of traditional hygiene. Despite the challenge of balancing OMT training with a full-time job and raising two young children (a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old), the mission was too important to defer. I knew I had to gain this expertise to truly address the root causes of many common health struggles.

Over the past three years, my dedication has allowed my myofunctional therapy practice to grow significantly. This success fueled a gradual transition away from hygiene, and I’ve been able to dedicate myself full-time to OMT for most of 2025. It’s been a privilege to work with incredible clients. The results are what drive me every day: watching a child shift their entire trajectory of growth simply by learning to breathe correctly, or seeing an adult find lasting relief from years of chronic jaw pain and sleepless nights. This work is deeply fulfilling, allowing me to use my clinical background to achieve real, impactful improvements in people’s quality of life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I have come up against many professionals that think myofunctional therapy is silly or something that doesn’t really work. I have also received a lot of pushback from friends that I thought believed in me but ultimately were not supportive. Building something from the ground up has been a bumpy road but it is worth it in so many ways.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT), a field dedicated to retraining the muscles of the face and mouth. Our focus is on treating the root cause of health issues—not just the symptoms. We are known for effectively addressing poor habits like mouth breathing and incorrect tongue posture, which can significantly impact sleep, jaw health (TMJ), and development in children.

What Sets Us Apart
Our unique strength lies in our dual perspective:

Clinical Depth: My foundation as a long-time dental hygienist provides a deep, clinical understanding of oral health, enabling effective collaboration with dentists, orthodontists, and sleep specialists.

Personal Empathy: Our practice is built on the empathy gained from my own personal journey discovering OMT for my family. We offer not just treatment, but a genuine, supportive partnership for clients exhausted from searching for answers.

Our Brand and Mission
I am most proud of our brand’s reputation for functional transformation. Our mission is to empower clients to achieve life-long, sustainable health improvements. We want readers to know this critical message: If you are struggling with restless sleep, chronic congestion, or jaw pain, the answer may be foundational. We offer the structured path to correct these crucial habits, ultimately improving the quality of the air you breathe, the quality of your sleep, and the quality of your life.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
It is less of a specific memory and more of an amalgamation of memories. My mom, my sisters, and I used to go to the movies, watch rom coms at home, get pedicures, and all of the girl bonding things. We are still close now so it is fun to look back on when we were first building our relationships.
