Meet Cathalin Leija of Sisters Kitchen Food Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathalin Leija.

Hi Cathalin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2020, I found myself reconnecting with a passion that had always lived quietly in my heart—cooking. Growing up with humble beginnings, I was surrounded by the aromas and traditions created by my mother and tias in the kitchen. Watching them transform simple ingredients into something magical planted the first seeds of my love for food. Years later, I became a true student of the dishes I cherished most: authentic salsas, handmade tortillas, and home- fried chips. My first taste testers were my husband and children.

As my career in the hospitality industry took off, that passion was placed on the back burner. Over the next four years, I pushed myself to meet and exceed professional goals, gaining invaluable experience along the way. Yet despite the success, I felt a growing pull back to what truly fulfilled me—sharing my culture through food.

In the summer of 2024, I made the decision to step away, reset, and fully invest in the God-given gift I had been nurturing for years: creating authentic Mexican salsas, handmade tortillas, and house-fried chips. After several months of test marketing to hundreds, perfecting the flavors and colors- that leap of faith became Sisters Kitchen Food Co., and today, we are proudly celebrating our first year in business.

Sisters Kitchen Food Co. is built on two core values: tradition and community. Every product we make reflects the flavors, techniques, and love passed down through generations. And this is only the beginning. While we continue to honor our Mexican roots, we look forward to introducing future delights inspired by El Salvador—always staying true to the authenticity of our craft.

Every jar of salsa, every packet of tortillas, and every bag of chips is made with the utmost care and quality. Our goal is simple: to serve our community with food that feels like home.
Buen provecho!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anytime you want to take your craft to the next level- like running a business, it takes GANAS! Hard work ethic, student mentality and 100% attitude.

Struggles in the beginning were time management, inventory counts. Then it became partnering with experts to ensure we maximized the vendor events. We deal with struggles each time, but know it’s an opportunity to overcome and reach the next level.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Right now, I spend time reading articles and connecting with experts who have great online engagement so I can keep learning and growing. I also attend packaging trade shows to get new ideas and continue improving how our products are presented.

As far as reading, I’m currently in the Book of Proverbs and just finished Faith Still Moves Mountains by Harris Faulkner, which I really enjoyed because of all the short, powerful stories. I also just started Build a Business You Love by Dave Ramsey.
