Inspiring Conversations with April Crowe of Cultivating Courage Counseling and Wellness, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Crowe.

Hi April, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I did not grow up in a world where mental health was talked about openly. Emotions were something I learned to manage on my own. From a young age, I had many battles with mental health. For me, it was very much internal disarray not having the language or support to share what I was feeling. Throughout my years, I’ve seen many people in pain as a result from mental health challenges. I knew I always wanted to help normalize mental health care and help people improve their overall well being. I’ve worked in all levels of care for adults and the older adult population with co-occurring mental health disorders- Acute Care Hospitalization, Residential, PHP, IOP, OP, and most recently in Feb. 2025 I opened my virtual private practice. I currently service all of Texas residents virtually, and am projected to have in person Houston location in 2026. I specialize in Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Personality Disorders, and Grief.

Today, I show up for others in the very spaces that were were not available to me. I work with individuals and couples through some of the most vulnerable journeys of their lives. My work is rooted in deep compassion and courage. Brene Brown speaks about courage being a heart word saying “to speak ones mind by telling one’s heart.” I aim to cultivate a safe place where people feel like they can show up as their most authentic self, the willingness to be seen even when it feels uncomfortable. To embrace yourself with your whole heart. I actually named my private practice atter that concept, Cultivating Courage Counseling and Wellness, PLLC. Wellness being the holistic approach that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit. Integrating the practices that bring inner balance and connection, all intertwined with evidence based therapeutic approaches, to truly support the whole person.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Holding space for others often requires me to to carry heavy emotions while navigating my own challenges. I continue to learn that being present for others does not mean being untouched by the pain I witness. To me, it means learning how to stay grounded, practicing to balance my own personal healing with humility and self reflection, while holding the responsibility of supporting others.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cultivating Courage Counseling and Wellness, PLLC?
