Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Allard.
Amanda , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My background is communication research. I have all three of my degrees in communication studies. My doctorate research focused on interpersonal relationships. While I was teaching at Michigan State University I taught a intorduction course to public speaking. In this course students were required to present 3 speeches: informative, persuasive, and a Bestman/Bridesmaid speech.
This is where I learned how to teach others how to write a wedding speech. The idea for Wedded Words derived from my own engagement. My husband and I were thinking of people who we wanted to be bridesmaids and groomsmen, and we talked ourselves out of having them in the wedding party because we were afraid of what they would say during the speeches. Around this same time, I had a student contact me from the MSU public speaking course and asked me to help them with their best man speech.
This was when the idea for Wedded Words was discovered.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh no! The wedding industry is a unique one to be in. Today, brides and grooms are bombarded with advertisement, decisions, and pressure from wedding businesses. So that was my first challenge was getting in front of customers.
The second biggest challenge was keeping the customer in mind with the product. When I began Wedded Words everything was in person. I quickly realized after I worked with a couple that this was not efficient as Brides and Grooms don’t always have the time to sit down and work with a speech writer 1-on-1 (Although, I still offer this service through my site).
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

I spoke with a DJ recently that told me 98% of the speeches he hears at weddings are written by AI. In 30 years when the couple goes back to listen to their wedding speeches, they also will be able to decipher that the speech was written by AI…which is unbelievably impersonal.
