Nancy Villatoro- Author/Builder. She developed a fascination for home maintenance and improvement from an early age. Growing up with a single mom, she witnessed her mother’s determination to keep the house in good condition. She would go on to hire professionals to get the job done. This sparked her curiosity about how things were fixed, replaced, and renovated. She admired the dedication, effort, and passion that contractors put into completing projects from start to finish. While embarking on a career in this rewarding field, she found joy in ensuring families could enjoy a beautiful kitchen where they cook meals and spend quality time together. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working in a male-dominated industry has been one of my greatest challenges. Many people expect a man—not a woman—to be running a construction company. Another major obstacle I overcame was the language barrier. I had to learn everything from A to Z to keep moving forward. Building a business is not for the weak, but perseverance and determination kept me going.
