Hi Trebien, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

My name is Trebien Robertson, and I was born and raised right here in Houston, Texas. Serving my community has always been at the core of who I am. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to roles that allowed me to help others and make a meaningful impact.
For nearly 22 years, I have dedicated myself to healthcare service in the Texas Medical Center—and I continue to do so today, with less than eight years remaining until retirement. While I am still actively working in healthcare, I have also been able to successfully build and operate my tax business, proving that it is possible to transition with purpose while preparing for long-term freedom.
Along the way, I experienced a major mindset shift. I realized that no one would ever recognize my worth more than I would. The effort, discipline, and commitment I was giving each day was ultimately helping to build someone else’s dream instead of my own.
As I began investing in myself—learning information not taught in traditional schools—I discovered I was meant for more. I knew my value exceeded the $30–40K ceiling I had been conditioned to accept. That awakening led me into entrepreneurship.
My first venture was a credit repair business, inspired by my own journey of restoring and strengthening my personal credit. As my entrepreneurial knowledge expanded, so did my curiosity—especially around taxes. I wanted to understand how the government rewards businesses differently than consumers and how financial education can create long-term generational impact.
After joining a community of tax professionals, I found my lane. I am now entering my third tax season as a tax professional and have built a growing team of professionals who have partnered with me to learn the tax industry. Several of my partners have since launched their own tax businesses.
Today, I am a Licensed Reseller of tax software, providing opportunities for like-minded individuals to start and scale their own tax businesses. Through TLR TAX PROS, I proudly serve Houston and surrounding communities, while also operating virtually—allowing me to support clients nationwide.
In addition to serving clients, I actively mentor my team while balancing my healthcare career. My partners are located nationwide and receive ongoing training through Zoom classes, online webinars, tax forums, and annual networking events designed to support both professional growth and collaboration.
The greatest part of this journey is that I am still growing. I continue to learn from my mentors each year, which allows me to pass down the same proven blueprint as a mentor to my partners—creating opportunity, ownership, and financial empowerment within our communities.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—and I believe that’s true for any real entrepreneur. One of the biggest struggles was the mindset shift. Leaving the security of a traditional paycheck and betting on myself required unlearning years of conditioning around “playing it safe.”
Another major challenge was time management. Balancing a demanding healthcare career, building a business from the ground up, continuing my education, and showing up as a mentor for my team wasn’t easy. There were long nights, early mornings, and moments of exhaustion where quitting would’ve been the easier option.
Financially, there were times I had to reinvest more into my business than I could immediately see returned. Paying for education, software, licensing, and marketing—before consistent revenue—tested my patience and discipline.
On a personal level, I had to accept that not everyone close to me understood my vision. Growth required me to make difficult decisions to step away from certain friendships and intentionally rebuild my circle with like-minded individuals—people who shared the same mindset, goals, and commitment to growth. That shift alone was a major turning point in my journey.
As my team grew, I also had to learn how to lead people with different personalities, work styles, and life circumstances. Life doesn’t stop just because someone starts a business, and I learned quickly that some partners may not always return calls or texts, or consistently show up for trainings. That required patience, understanding, and maturity as a leader.
At the same time, I had to learn balance. I remain present and supportive when partners are available and ready—but I also learned to focus my time, energy, and mentorship on those who consistently show up and are actively building their businesses. Pouring into those who are committed not only keeps momentum strong, but also sets the standard for the entire team.
