We recently had the chance to connect with Tonia B. and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Tonia, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I like to treat the first 90 minutes of my day as sacred time. It’s my moment to pour into myself before I start pouring into everyone else. I usually begin with prayer and a devotional to center my spirit, followed by journaling to release whatever’s on my heart or mind. Then I set my intentions for the day and go over my to-do list, both personal and business. As a mom, entrepreneur, and corporate professional, things can move fast. So taking this time in the morning helps me stay grounded, focused, and in control of my energy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Tonia Bivens, founder of The Virtual Slay, LLC, a virtual assistant and digital services brand I created to help busy business owners get back to doing what they love while I handle the admin work behind the scenes. I started this business during a time when I needed more flexibility and freedom in my life. I was working full-time, juggling motherhood, and trying to figure out how to make income on my own terms without burning out.
What started as a side hustle quickly grew into something deeper: a brand built around intentional support, streamlined systems, and helping women, especially moms, build businesses without chaos. Today, I provide virtual assistant services, digital product design, and tools that help entrepreneurs stay organized and show up professionally, even when life is “lifing.”
Now that I’m in a new season of life, I’m refreshing and rebranding The Virtual Slay to reflect the version of me I’ve grown into: soft, structured, and success-focused. I want my clients to feel that too, like they can run their businesses with clarity, ease, and flow. I’m also building out my second brand, Slay the Digital Way, which empowers aspiring entrepreneurs to create digital products and start building online income from home.
At the end of the day, I’m just a busy mom with big dreams, strong faith, and a soft life mindset, using my skills to help others while creating a better life for my son and me.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Becoming a mom completely shifted how I see the world. It changed my pace, my priorities, and the way I make decisions. Before motherhood, I was moving fast and pouring into everything and everyone except myself. But when my son was born, I started to see life through a softer lens. I realized how precious time is, how important it is to be present, and how necessary it is to create a life that actually feels good, not just looks good on paper.
That moment helped me shift from just surviving to creating with purpose. It shaped how I run my business, how I move through life, and what I say yes to. It’s the reason I embrace soft structure, faith, and flow and it’s why I’m so passionate about helping other women build businesses that support the life they actually want.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her: never give up. Keep going, even when things feel heavy or unclear. Have faith that everything is working out for your good, even when you can’t see it yet. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to take up space. You don’t have to have it all figured out right away. Trust your journey, trust your voice, and know that the version of who you’re becoming is going to be so proud.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. What you see is what you get. I show up online the same way I show up in real life, intentional, honest, and always rooting for others. I’m not trying to be perfect or polished 24/7, but I am always striving to be real. Whether I’m posting about business, motherhood, faith, or just having a soft life moment, it’s all me. I believe there’s power in showing up fully as yourself, and I hope people feel that when they connect with me or my brand.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in the quiet moments…early in the morning when the house is still, I’ve got my coffee, my journal, and time to just sit with God and breathe. That’s when I feel the most grounded and connected. I also feel peace when I’m spending intentional time with my son, just watching him laugh, learn, and enjoy life. It reminds me why I work so hard and why choosing a softer, more aligned life matters so much to me.
