Hidden Gems: Meet Robyn Gould of Finding Internal Truth Therapeutic Services aka F.I.T. Therapeutic Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Gould.

Robyn Gould

Hi Robyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story begins in Miami, Florida, where I was born and stayed for about 2 years. My parents then moved back to their hometown in the DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia) where I was raised with plethora of family and close friends.

During my upbringing I was always around my grandparents in both DC and Baltimore. My mother’s home was the hub for the best cookouts where family and friends would come to eat, laugh, dance, play cards, and just have a great time. Family is very important to me…and during my upbringing I realized that family does not have to be blood related.

Not too long after graduating from Bowie High School in Bowie, MD, I decided to join the Marines. Joining the military was never on my list of things to do, but when a well dressed and handsome man approaches you in Marine attire, it’s hard to say no. The Marine recruiter provided a different path of life that I never considered. So being the adventurous person that I am…I joined and discharged honorably after 4 years of active duty between living overseas and in the United States. During my military time there were many lessons learned regarding different cultures within the US and abroad, with even a tour a duty during war time in Kuwait.

After the military I took a few months to gather myself to search for who I wanted to be moving forward. This brought me to understanding my desire to help others. At first I thought I could do this by being a secondary educator, but I realized that there is no subject that I truly enjoyed and this really did not fully capture how I wanted to help others. After further research I found myself drawn to social work.

I started off at a community college and received my Associates in Arts, then completed my undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Arts with a major in Social Work from Prairie View A&M University…go Panthers! I utilized my degree to be a Training Coordinator with Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare in Conroe, TX. This position increased my cultural knowledge and created friendships I would cherish for years to come.

I went back to school to complete my graduate degree of Master’s in Social Work with the University of Southern California…go Trojans! This provided an opportunity for me within Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare to become the manager over the Integrated Primary Care Services that were being provided at the facility under grant funding. Seeing the psychosocial needs of the clients within the lenses of medical needs drew me to the field of medical social work.

My next chapters of life would bring me in direct contact with patient’s within some of the largest and highly awarded hospital systems working as a Medical Social Worker. While I have provided services to patients on hospital floors, I am currently working within the Emergency Department at Houston Methodist Hospital in The Woodlands, TX. This field of Social Work has been extremely rewarding and eye-opening to the needs within our communities.

I believe strengthening the mind, body, and soul has the most effective impact on a person. Along side of being a Medical Social Worker, I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board Approved Supervisor. I provide therapeutic interventions in the office for those needing mental health intervention while also providing a public health space for anyone who enjoys outdoor walking. In this manner I enjoy helping others explore and move towards their most healthy self.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life would not be as exciting, memorable, nor educational if not for the challenges received along the journey. Similar to military training, you train through an obstacle course in order to build upon and enhance your current qualities and such is life! Each challenge builds greater endurance, wit, self-awareness, and the ability to simply be human.

One of the lessons I learned during challenging times is to trust in my own abilities. This includes my ability to consider doing things differently than what feels comfortable to me. Trust that getting things wrong is always a learning experience leading to greater reflection and increased knowledge.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Finding Internal Truth Therapeutic Services aka F.I.T. Therapeutic Services?
My business, Finding Internal Truth (FIT) Therapeutic Services, was originally started with a desire to assist people with moving through life circumstances to include relationships, work, health, and mental health concerns. Being a Marine veteran myself, I enjoy working with veterans and their families as I have a broad understanding of the challenges associated with military life, transitioning to civilian life, and the hardship it can bring to your family.

My therapeutic style incorporates my personality of being able to laugh, smile, while also being direct and supportive. I ensure my clients are aware upfront that I am from the East Coast and do not sugar coat situations nor problems. We need to identify the problem and work towards being able to find peace within the situation/solution.

I am proud to acknowledge and incorporate health and nutrition into the therapeutic process. While I am not a licensed dietician nor personal trainer, I encourage my client’s to utilize their primary care physician as well as other medical health benefits to assist with identifying proper nutrition and physical health for a holistic approach. I also have a monthly wellness walking group “Wellness in Motion” that I lead one Saturday a month at different local parks.
