Meet Connie Gomez, Blogger and Founder of Momma of Dos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connie Gomez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2008 I started working for the communications department at Harris County and it sparked an interest in writing. I started a blog and about 4 month later discovered I was pregnant. I also discovered “Mommy Bloggers” and went on to transition my blog to a mom blog. In September 2009 I had my son and in August of 2010, 9 months after having my son I discovered I was pregnant again, and Momma of Dos was born. I have since transitioned my blog into a lifestyle, cultural and female empowerment blog.

As a Momma of Dos who works outside the home in corporate America, I want to be able to help other women find their passion and seek their purpose. While being a momma is very important to me, being an accomplished community leader and career woman has also been a big driving factor in my life. I have over the years tried to grow in both areas and feel that I have succeeded. In it all, I want to share with other women how they too can grow and be happy with their choice to work outside the home and still follow their dreams.

In 2014 while at a conference with other local Latina bloggers, we realized that there was a gap that needed to be filled. There were no local Latina blogger groups, so myself and another fellow blogger who now lives in London, created Houston Latina Bloggers. In 2015 after several months of not having worked on anything, we had our first meet-up and the response was bigger than expected. We created new opportunities and events for local bloggers and we have not stopped since.

It’s been a long road for both my personal blog and the group but it’s definitely been worth it. The group has helped many local bloggers not only find one another but also allowed them to work with brands nationwide and grow. We are very proud of the work we’ve accomplished in such short time. The group is going on its 3rd working year and I don’t have any plans to slow it down. Instead, I want to continue to grow it as we have and create more meaningful connections.

Where I am now, where many other women are…trying to make it all work, no matter how that looks or how much work it takes. I am happy and fulfilled.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has definitely not been easy. Finding myself as a “leader” seeing myself as that and acting like one and committing to this has been hard. I have so many other titles and demands in my life that giving up on being a “leader” is always my natural choice. While being a wife, Momma, friend, daughter, sibling, employee, etc., can have its challenges. I think it’s the unknown of leadership that, I guess “scares” me. Moving forward and making the right decisions for the group or my blog even when things have been hard personally, is what has taught me that my journey is worth sharing.

At the end of the day, there have been many rewards and perks to the choices I have made. And, I also don’t regret all of the experiences, connections, and friends I have made along the way.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Blogger- Momma of Dos/Founder- Houston Latina Bloggers story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m in the business of making connections. Connecting people to each other, connecting bloggers to brands, connecting others to Houston. I am proud of the work we have accomplished as a whole. HLB has helped fuel many amazing local partnerships and relationships. The women in our group have been so supportive and encouraging that it makes it all worthwhile. What sets us apart is our true and genuine intentions to support one another and help each other succeed.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think that social media evolves overnight and I hope that our teams can continuously improve and grow.
