Daily Inspiration: Meet Lauren Leal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Leal.

Hi Lauren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I got started as a Sports Host while attending University of Houston. I noticed there was no host during UH football games but only public announcement reads. As an eager student wanting to grow and develop her skills in sports broadcast, I brought this attention to UH Athletics. I relentlessly reached out to the athletic department for an answer about becoming an In-Stadium Host for Cougar Football. After numerous emails and phone calls, I finally reached the person in charge of Cougar Gameday and ultimately pitched the position to become University of Houston Cougar Football’s In-Stadium Host!

The hard work had just started and only begun my journey into the sports world, but I am always up for a challenge and thirst for success. After graduating, I shortly began working for the Houston Rockets as the Game Presentation Coordinator and you guessed it, the In-Arena and Social Media Host. I thrived with a mic in my hand, amping up crowds at both UH and Toyota Center (where the Rockets play), but I was hungry for a full-time position in front of the camera. Once that Rocket season concluded (with the Beard), I set out to discover a Sports Reporter position. As a firm believer in my faith, the big man opened the door for me to host a Sports TV Show on KPRC2 Sunday evenings called Texans Sports Nation which later rebranded as Houston Sports Show. During the 30 minute slot, we covered all the latest sports news in H-Town including Astros commentary, Houston Rockets lineups in addition to the Houston Texans and Houston Dynamo hot takes and team insights. My favorite pieces were the In-Depth interviews with current and retired players about their career journey, lifestyles and person interests.

After six years on TV screens and three over the airwaves on ESPN 97.5, our shows had concluded. This is where my Marketing brain took over. During my time as a TV Reporter and Host, I continued my game-day hosting with various teams and events around the city which lead to my next role as the Director of Marketing and Media Relations for the Houston SaberCats Professional Rugby Team. What a fun and challenging role bringing a new sport, new team and exciting culture to this vibrant city!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. Lots of right and left turns. But each experience whether great or head scratching, ultimately helps you grow and builds character. When you start going down a road that no longer excites you, change it. You have the ability and prayer will guide your steps.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I believe my passion, excitement and hype/enthusiasm sets me apart from other individuals in the business. In sports, game presentation holds the ability to make a memory of a lifetime for fan experiences and I love being part of that, creating those ever-lasting moments. I’m blessed to have accolades working with all pro teams in Houston and most proud to make a positive and exciting impact in fans lives who have attended events I host and also have watched the programs I have been part of. All glory to the Lord for these blessings.

What’s next?
Continuing to chase my passion, follow my dreams and help lead others along the way where and when the opportunities present themselves.
