Exploring Life & Business with Alberto Garcia of AGD Painting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alberto Garcia.

Hi Alberto, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
This used to be my dad’s painting business, he started it when I was young maybe early 90s. Just like any business he had ups and downs but by the time I entered high school, the business started to be more steady and growing. I would work with him on the weekends and when I graduated, I would work with him for a year before I started college. During that I would do college and work with him until I graduated and worked with until I figured what I wanted to do. I would eventually go do other work just to try different things since all I knew was painting. Well years will passed and I would have experienced a few jobs until fall of 2021 would come. My dad ended up getting COVID and end up passing away in November. From there my family and I decided how we were going to handle the company as it was a four man crew and I was the only one who knew the art of painting but was planning to move out of state. I decided to stay and help my sister keep the company going. Well from there that’s where the bumpy road started. We first had to change the company name since we had an issue with the name AG painting, so we just added a D for my older sisters initial, to AGD painting. The designers that my dad worked with would then stop giving us calls since my sister was handling the phone and I was absent for a few years so they didn’t know me as well. We were able to keep the workers for a couple of months but unfortunately ended up losing them for lack of work. Though I had become really good at painting, only the people that had seen my work would be the ones that would keep the company going for a while. We would run the company like that with the oldest on the phone, while working her job, and me and my youngest sister doing the actual job. While work wasn’t plentiful we continued and ended up catching a break at the end of 2022 where we worked with one of my dads old designer and she liked our work and it was going well that we hired an old employee back. Unfortunately that would only last a year and end up in square one with bigger company bills as I thought we were going to be good so decided to upgrade a few tools. 2024 was a rough year as there was only enough work to keep the company going and enough to pay my bills. I would have my younger sister find work elsewhere and by then I was already in control of the business phone so that would leave me running the company and doing all the work by myself. Fortunately at the end of 2024 things started to pick up as I did my best to network and get close to paint stores, other painters and just show the world how good I can be. I created a google page, a website and so far everything has been going well and slowly growing. Here we are today with a busy schedule and occasionally hire a few people to help with big projects.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hasn’t been a smooth ride, definitely have had good and bad YEARS. Most of it was not being able to get work and the occasional broken down van.

We’ve been impressed with AGD Painting , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The business is a home painting company. I’m the painter but I’ve grown to just become friends with all my clients. Though there are a lot of “painters” out there, I’m one that takes the time to make sure everything is perfect and even fixed things the client didn’t know was wrong, and still have time to chat with the client for a while about life.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Though it kind of goes hand in hand with painting, a lot of people get surprised when I tell them I know how to draw and play the piano.
