Inspiring Conversations with Courtney Morris of Courtney Morris Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Morris.

Hi Courtney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to school for hospitality, and growing up with an entrepreneurial mom, I always knew I’d end up doing something creative and on my own. After finishing school and moving back home, I came across the idea of luxury picnics. It wasn’t my original concept, but I immediately knew I could bring my own perspective to it.

I invested in a single promoted post, created a mock setup, and styled a small, intimate picnic experience. It happened to be around a holiday, and the idea took off quickly, especially at places like Buffalo Bayou Park. From there, I started planning small celebrations for couples and intimate groups. That early momentum turned into something much bigger. What started as picnics naturally evolved into full-scale events, weddings, and curated experiences, all rooted in hospitality, design, and thoughtful execution.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Especially in the beginning. I’ve always believed that I’ll figure things out, but that doesn’t make the early stages easy. You’re investing your own money, putting yourself out there, and not seeing the return right away. You’re hearing a lot of no’s, working with clients who may not fully value your work yet, and questioning your processes as you go.

I remember nights where I felt genuinely discouraged, wondering if anyone would book me at all. I specifically remember how badly I wanted my first wedding. I was almost begging for it. And now looking back, it’s funny because I knew it was always going to happen. I was just impatient. I don’t think the road is ever completely smooth, but the hard part is learning to trust the timing while continuing to show up and do the work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Courtney Morris Collective?
My business is rooted in hospitality first. Everything we do is about how people feel walking into a space and how the experience unfolds from start to finish. While we offer full-service event planning, design, florals, and rentals, what we’re really known for is creating intentional, well-executed events that feel elevated but never overdone.

We specialize in weddings and intimate celebrations, but we also work on social and brand events where thoughtful design and strong logistics matter equally. I’m very hands-on, and our process is structured but flexible. Clients aren’t just getting a “pretty event”, they’re getting guidance, transparency, and someone who understands both the creative and operational sides of this industry.

What sets us apart is that balance. I come from a hospitality background, so service, communication, and accountability are just as important to me as design. I don’t believe in overpromising or selling a fantasy. I believe in setting realistic expectations and then exceeding them through execution.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how organically the business has grown. It started small, evolved intentionally, and now works with clients who truly value the process, the collaboration, and the level of care we bring to every event. I want people to know that when they work with us, they’re getting a thoughtful partner, someone who takes their event seriously, respects their investment, and is fully committed to getting it right.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of delegation and boundaries. As someone who comes from a hospitality background, it’s easy to fall into a people-pleasing mindset and feel responsible for everything. Over time, I’ve learned that doing everything myself isn’t sustainable, and that trusting others allows me to focus on the areas where I bring the most value.

I’ve also learned how important it is to respect my own boundaries. Clear communication, defined processes, and honoring my expertise actually lead to better experiences for everyone involved. When I protect my time and energy, I’m able to show up more present, more creative, and more intentional for the clients and events that truly matter.
