Check Out Beth Werner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Werner.

Beth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up near Houston and went to college at University of Texas in Austin. After school, I worked in Houston planning and designing luxury events for over 15 years before my path crossed with Mont Art House. I have now been the art consultant for Mont for over two years, helping corporate and residential clients acquire beautiful artwork.

Art has always been a huge part of my life, so I am so glad it’s now taking center stage in my career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working in luxury events was not without its struggles! It takes a lot of self sacrifice to run events, giving up many of your nights and weekends. Once I had my second son, I realized I wanted to continue to work with clients and design beautiful rooms, but I pivoted into a realm of design with more stable hours.

Art consulting is the perfect balance for me in that it is part client relationship and part creativity. I’ve always had an eye for good investments, and I’ve always loved coaching clients through making those types of decisions. They can be difficult ones to make, and I like to believe I am the decisive cheerleader they needed for the journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am proud to be on a team where women understand the need to be kind and need to be flexible. Both with ourselves and our clients. Our gallery owner, Jennifer Monteleone, has created a casual gallery space where we aim to never intimidate an art buyer. They may be purchasing their first piece of artwork or be a longstanding collector. Either way, we want them to love the shopping experience as much as the piece they purchase at the end of the day. No hard sale, just honestly and kindness. I am really grateful for that culture.

I also think our roster of artists are such grounded and hardworking individuals. We give them freedom to create, and the end result is work we are proud to sell for them.

As the consultant for the gallery, I sell both our artists’ work and pieces from across the city/country/world! Interacting with such a wide range of galleries and artists is a privilege. Getting my eyes full daily with original art and self expression is a blessing. The least I can do is help it find a home!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Double Vision is on my current reading list, as it focuses on the Texas art scene.

Collecting interesting art books from Kaboom Books in the heights has been highly recommended to me by one of our artists and I plan on stopping in soon. Nothing better than art books in every corner of your house.

Podcast wise, Juicebox Podcast has changed so much for me as someone living with type 1 diabetes. Always happy to plug them for anyone going through the same health journey as me!
