Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Breshears.
Hi Jason, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My wife and I started an ad agency called Adworks Houston—now J. Lincoln Group—focusing on events and touring attractions. One of our clients was using this clunky mom-and-pop ticketing platform that looked terrible and was hard to navigate. So I built them something simpler. They loved it and made the switch immediately.
That first version was basic—just built for them. We brought in a top-notch development firm and spent a year building out a full-featured platform called MainGate Tickets. Now it rivals the big players like Ticketmaster and Eventbrite, but without the hidden fees and with actual human customer support.
It’s perfect for venues that want to save money or just hate that they have to pass a bunch of fees on to their customers. We even handle customer service calls for our clients if they want, which saves them way more than just the reduced ticket fees.
And we still run the marketing firm, so a lot of our ticketing clients use us for their Facebook and Instagram ads, TV and radio spots, billboards—the whole package.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Our largest client who we started with was sold to an investment company. Once the new ownership came in, they wanted to switch to one of the giant ticketers. It was devastating and never really made sense. We were lower cost and handled customer service and their marketing. When they switched, they had to hire more people and pay more in fees and things. They thought, if this guy who owns the ticketing platform gets hit buy a bus and dies, we’re screwed. haha. They didn’t understand that it’s live software. If I died, they’d still be able to use the software we created. Since then, that same company did some testing and found that our platform has faster load times than Ticketmaster and has higher conversion rates. It was awesome that THEY discovered that on their own. We are in talks with having them back on our platform so we’re praying about that.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, like I mentioned we started the marketing agency because we were both creatives. My wife is a photographer and graphic designer as well as a fantastic genealogist. I started with graphic design and lead to web design, videography TV ads, video editing and all that kind of stuff. I’m also a musician
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
My wife and I are both Christians and have raised two beautiful daughters. I feel we’ve been blessed. It doesn’t mean it’s always easy, but when the right connections come into our lives or certain opportunities, I see them as blessing over luck.
