Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Anderson.
Hi Chris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in Boling Texas. A 4 way stop where there were more cows than people. I was taught that hard work went a long way and that in order to make it you had to work, no exceptions. My parents divorced when I was 9. My mom worked very hard to provide for herself and I. Throughout my upbringing after the divorce it seemed like we struggled every minute of every day and never had much. We moved all around south Houston and west Houston off I-10 where ever we could afford to live. And we moved a lot.. It always seemed no matter how hard it got we always made it to the next day! I graduated a year and a half early from Columbus High School in 2012.
During my time in High School I was working a full time job for a hunting lodge and driving from Katy to go to school in Columbus for 4 hours and work for 10+ hours. After I left the hunting lodge I stayed with family trying desperately to get a job and had no luck. I then moved back to boling and stayed with my uncle until I was 18. I finally found work in the oil field and started to get up on my own feet! I spent a little over 3 years in the oil field as a machinist and became a sponge! As in I soaked in every little bit of info about machining and engineering, programming and quality control that I could and learned a lot. However, this line of work ends with the price of fuel dropping. So it was an uneasy feeling and I wanted more out of life. I moved on to becoming a service tech and enjoyed meeting new people every day and going somewhere new each day.
One day I realized I was tired of working for someone else’s success and wanted complete control of my life. I wanted to build my own dream and work toward my own goals. So I did my research and opened Honest Overhead Door. So now I spend my days building my life! Working on my dreams and being in complete control! Life is what you make it! Never let your past define your future.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the process of getting Honest Overhead Door, LLC up and running, we have overcome quite a few hurdles. From marketing and advertisement as well as learning business taxes and how to properly handle all of the back office jobs. It was a big change in pace to go from working hourly for someone else to being entirely self employed. Now that the company has been up and going for just about 10 years. We have gotten a really good handle on day-to-day operations and it does seem that each day that goes by business rolls by a little bit smoother.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My Company is Honest Overhead Door. We are a garage door repair and installation company working on all residential garage doors ranging in size and weight. We also work on automatic driveway gate systems and brand new installations. We offer extremely competitive prices being that we are a family owned company. We take pride in our work and care about our customer’s. Being a business owner I know that my customers are my lifeline and I respect that. Therefore, I treat each and every customer as if you are family.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was waking up back when I was eight or nine years old on a Saturday morning to go have breakfast with my uncle James Downey! We would mow the entire property pick up all of the sticks and branches and cut back the brush lines. We spent the entire weekend doing all of the yardwork and as I’ve grown older, I look back and appreciate those times so much more.
