Inspiring Conversations with Milan Stapley of Brows By Milan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Milan Stapley.

Hi Milan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My path into permanent makeup began with a long-standing creative background and a desire to build a career rooted in artistry, precision, and care. I’ve always been drawn to work that blends technical skill with an intuitive understanding of people, and permanent makeup for brows became the perfect intersection of those strengths.

Early on, I noticed that many clients, across different ages, were looking for brow enhancements that felt natural and wearable, rather than overly bold or trend-driven. I design brows by considering each client’s bone structure, facial movements, and natural hair growth, allowing those elements to guide the shape and flow of the brow. My goal is never to impose a look, but to complement what already exists and create results that feel natural, balanced, and effortless.

I began my career trained in microblading and continued my education through advanced training in powder brows, nano brows, and corrective brow work. Today, my clients range from those new to permanent makeup to those seeking subtle refinement or correction. Every service is tailored to harmonize with facial features rather than overpower them.

At every stage of my career, my focus has remained the same: offering honest guidance, thoughtful technique selection, and brow enhancements that feel safe, natural, and aligned with each client’s comfort level and personal definition of beauty.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most meaningful careers, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road but every challenge has played a role in shaping how I work today.

One of the biggest learning curves early on was realizing that permanent makeup is never one-size-fits-all. Skin type, facial structure, lifestyle, and healing responses vary greatly, and truly understanding those differences takes time, continued education, and humility. I chose to invest heavily in refining my skills and judgment rather than simply following trends.

With experience also comes a constant level of self-evaluation. Like most artists, I look back at my work from years ago and see how much my technique has evolved. Working on hundreds of women over time has taught me nuance, restraint, and confidence in decision-making. That level of scrutiny isn’t a weakness, it’s what keeps my work improving. I believe it’s both the gift and the responsibility of being an artist: always striving to do better for the next client who sits in your chair.

Another challenge has been navigating an industry where trends often move faster than best practices. There can be pressure to deliver bold, immediate results, but permanent makeup requires restraint, patience, and honest communication. Choosing to prioritize long-term outcomes over instant gratification hasn’t always been the easiest path, but it’s one I’ve stayed committed to because it serves my clients best.

Becoming a mother also reshaped how I approached my work. Balancing career and family forced me to work smarter and more intentionally, streamlining my process, managing my time carefully, and being fully present during each appointment. That shift ultimately made me more focused, thoughtful, and detail-oriented with every client I serve.

Looking back, those challenges reinforced what matters most to me: continued education, ethical decision-making, and staying grounded in what’s truly best for the client. Each step, smooth or not, has contributed to the calm, thoughtful, and client-centered experience I offer today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Brows By Milan?
Brows By Milan is a permanent makeup studio specializing exclusively in brow services, with a focus on natural, refined results. I offer techniques such as nano brows, powder and ombré brows, combo brows, microblading, and corrective brow work, and every service is customized based on the client’s bone structure, skin type, natural hair growth, and long-term goals.

What sets my work apart is a conservative, structure-driven approach. I don’t follow trends or apply a one-look-fits-all formula. Instead, I design brows by considering how a face moves, how hair naturally grows, and how healed pigment will complement each client’s lifestyle and goals. My aim is to create a lifted, balanced result that enhances the face naturally, not to overpower features or push someone beyond what feels comfortable to them.

I’m especially known for creating soft, refined results that heal naturally and continue to look balanced years down the line. Many of my clients come to me because they want low-maintenance brows that feel realistic and wearable, or because they’ve had previous work that needs thoughtful correction rather than additional saturation.

Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built. Much of my business comes through referrals, which tells me clients feel informed, cared for, and confident in both the process and the outcome. I prioritize education, honest communication, and ethical decision-making, even when that means recommending a more conservative approach or advising someone to wait.

I want readers to know that Brows By Milan is a space where clients are never rushed or pressured. Every appointment is intentional, collaborative, and focused on long-term results. Permanent makeup is a personal decision, and my role is to guide that process thoughtfully so each client leaves with brows that feel safe, natural, and aligned with their own definition of beauty.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I wouldn’t describe myself as someone who takes risks impulsively, but I do believe in taking thoughtful, calculated ones. In my field, risk isn’t something you chase, it’s something you evaluate carefully. Permanent makeup is a long-term decision for clients, so my approach has always been rooted in responsibility, education, and preparation rather than speed or trend-driven choices.

One of the biggest risks I took was choosing to specialize. Instead of offering a wide range of services, I focused exclusively on brows. That meant turning down opportunities to expand quickly, but it allowed me to refine my technique, deepen my knowledge, and build a reputation around doing one thing exceptionally well. In the long run, that decision strengthened both my skill set and my brand.

Another form of risk has been committing to a more conservative approach in an industry that often rewards bold, immediate transformations. Choosing restraint over instant results isn’t always the fastest path to growth, but it’s the one that builds trust and long-term credibility. I’ve learned that sometimes the most impactful decision isn’t doing more, it’s knowing when to do less. For example, I often tell my clients, “You can always add more later, but you can’t take away.” I also advise clients not to oversaturate pigment initially, because longevity matters. More pigment today can mean less flexibility for adjustments later.

I see risk as something that should be guided by intention and integrity. Whether it’s investing in advanced training, refining a technique, or advising a client to wait instead of moving forward right away, I believe the best risks are the ones taken with clarity and purpose. That mindset has shaped both my business and the experience I provide to every client.
