Conversations with Sharkey’s Hair It Is

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharkey’s Hair It Is.

Hi Sharkey’s, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well it’s interesting story, the original owner who own it before had contacted me to meet up and to catch up, since it was a while I hadn’t seen them. Well we meet up and talked for a bit as we moved on to a serious conversation about if I was interested of owning a business, I was like no but tell more, he had continued about the new owner who was owning the location was not wanting to continue with it, and was looking for buyers, I had told him ill think about it. Funny thing he gave my number to the gentleman and he contacted me after a couple days later about it. At first I had said no I wasn’t interested, then he keep calling, calling and calling. So then I said okay let’s look, but then another buyer was in the process of buying it. I got excited because that meant the owner backed up. I’m here thinking I am home free. Then the buyer was not approved for some reason. So the owner called me over again and was really being persistent on buying the business. I had told if I wasn’t approved for whatever reason to find a new buyer. He agreed luckily for him I was approved and that’s how I stumbled into the business world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Challenging working with kids its challenging, they are scared and your coming into there personal space with shears and clippers with a stranger, they freak out and sometimes kids react differently some screams, other cries, some kick and scream bloody murder and few will slap you or punch you! With most parents wanting a perfect haircut, when the kids are a moving targets, or worse when the parents are glued to their phone and see this happening and do not bother to help out with their own offsprings, some people wanting cheap prices for the service but they don’t see that its hard to keep staff who wants to work with their children or appreciate for the staff who makes the effort with their little ones to achieve a decent haircut.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
It’s not easy to work with children and parents. It’s hard to pleased everyone.
