My name is Latisha, and I’m the founder of T&T Transit, a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) company based in the Houston area. The inspiration for starting this business came from both personal experience and a deep desire to serve our community.
My husband had previously worked in the transportation industry as a driver for Metro Lift. Through his work, he developed a true passion for helping people get where they needed to go, especially individuals who rely on transportation services to attend medical appointments. While he was working in that role, we began to notice a major gap in service. Many patients were missing important appointments, waiting for long periods of time to be picked up, or even being left stranded after their appointments were finished.
Seeing this happen repeatedly really stuck with us. No one should have to worry about how they are going to get home after a medical appointment, especially when they may already be dealing with health challenges. We knew that transportation plays a critical role in access to healthcare, and we felt strongly that there had to be a better way.
That’s when we decided to take a leap of faith and start our own company. Our vision for T&T Transit was simple: provide reliable, compassionate, and professional transportation services so that people never feel forgotten or stranded. We wanted to create a company that treats every passenger with dignity and care, understanding that each trip represents something important in that person’s life.
From the beginning, our passion has been rooted in helping others. Every ride we provide is about more than transportation—it’s about making sure someone gets to dialysis on time, makes it to an important doctor’s appointment, or safely returns home after a procedure.
Building the business has been a journey filled with learning, growth, and perseverance. As a business owner, I’ve had to navigate operations, hiring drivers, building partnerships, and ensuring we maintain high standards of service. But through it all, our mission has remained the same: serve the community and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Today, T&T Transit continues to grow, and I’m proud of the impact we’ve been able to make. Our goal is to continue expanding, building strong partnerships with healthcare providers, and ensuring that no one in our community is left without safe and reliable transportation to the care they need.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never a completely smooth road, and building a non-emergency medical transportation company definitely came with its share of challenges. When we first started T&T Transit, we had to learn a lot about the industry, from regulations and insurance requirements to building relationships with healthcare providers and transportation brokers. There was also the challenge of creating reliable systems and finding drivers who truly understand the importance of the work we do.
One of the biggest challenges has been making sure we maintain the level of service we promised when we first started. We entered this industry because we saw how often people were being left waiting or stranded after medical appointments, and we were determined to do things differently. That meant putting strong processes in place, training drivers properly, and constantly monitoring our operations to ensure people receive safe and dependable transportation.
Like many small business owners, I’ve also had to wear many hats—handling operations, hiring, scheduling, compliance, and business development. It’s been a learning experience, but every challenge has helped me grow as an entrepreneur.

What’s next?
Looking ahead, my goal is to continue growing and strengthening T&T Transit while maintaining the high level of service our clients depend on. As the demand for non-emergency medical transportation continues to grow, we plan to expand our fleet and bring on more dedicated drivers who share our commitment to helping others.
We are also focused on building stronger partnerships with healthcare providers, hospitals, dialysis centers, and senior living communities throughout the Houston area. By doing this, we hope to reach more individuals who rely on dependable transportation to access their medical care.
Another part of our future plans is continuing to improve our systems and operations so that we can provide even more efficient and reliable service. Our goal is to ensure that every passenger we serve feels safe, respected, and confident that they will get to their appointments on time.
Ultimately, I want T&T Transit to be known as a trusted transportation provider in our community — a company that people can depend on when it matters most. As we grow, our mission will always remain the same: making sure transportation is never a barrier to receiving the care people need.
