Hi Lily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Lily Plouvier, and I am an award-winning fine art and portrait photographer based in The Woodlands, serving the Greater Houston area. I am also the founder of Plouvier Art, where I focus on creating artistic portraits that highlight authentic connection, memory, and storytelling.
My journey into photography was shaped by a multidisciplinary background that bridges art, science, and international experiences across Brazil, Portugal, Norway, and now the United States. Before fully dedicating myself to photography, I worked in chemistry and cultural heritage studies, including analytical work related to artistic and historical pieces. This experience deeply influenced how I observe light, detail, composition, and visual narrative.
Photography evolved from a creative interest into a meaningful way to highlight memory, connection, and human stories in an intentional and timeless manner. This vision led me to found Plouvier Art, with the purpose of creating artistic portraits that go beyond traditional photography and focus on emotion, authenticity, and storytelling.
Since relocating to the United States, I have focused on developing a community-centered and editorial body of work, including magazine features, collaborations with local organizations, and volunteer photography for impactful initiatives. These experiences reinforced my belief that photography is not only about images, but about preserving moments that carry emotional and historical value.
Today, my work centers on fine art portraits, storytelling family sessions, and editorial photography across The Woodlands and the Greater Houston region. My approach combines artistic direction, natural interaction, and refined editing to create images that feel authentic, timeless, and deeply personal, while maintaining a distinctive artistic signature. I have also become increasingly interested in the role photography plays in shaping visual communication, particularly in relation to brand identity.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a completely smooth road, but it has been a meaningful and transformative journey. One of the biggest challenges has been building my career while adapting to life in different countries. I have lived in Brazil, Portugal, and now the United States, and while each place has been an incredible source of culture, discovery, and inspiration, it also comes with the emotional reality of being far from family and constantly rebuilding a sense of home.
Starting over professionally in a new country requires resilience, patience, and the courage to create new friendships, networks, and opportunities from the ground up. At the same time, balancing family life and a creative career has been a deeply personal learning process, especially as someone who invests a lot of emotion into her work.
These experiences also shaped me in the most beautiful way. Living across different cultures made me more flexible, observant, and empathetic, and it deepened my appreciation for memory, connection, and human stories. I believe this is one of the reasons my photography is so centered on authenticity and emotional storytelling.
In many ways, the challenges of distance, adaptation, and reinvention strengthened my artistic vision. They taught me to value moments more intentionally, to connect more genuinely with people, and to see photography not just as an image, but as a way to preserve what truly matters in life.

My work focuses on capturing genuine human connection through a calm, artistic approach that values emotion, light, and a comfortable experience. I am a fine art and storytelling photographer based in The Woodlands, serving the Greater Houston area, specializing in portraits, families, and editorial-style photography.
In addition to client work, I am actively involved in creative and educational projects. I teach photography and enjoy guiding others in developing their visual perception and artistic confidence, which also enriches my own perspective as an artist. I have also participated in exhibitions and contribute as a columnist for an international Brazilian photography magazine, where I write about visual storytelling and the photography business.
What I am most proud of is being able to use photography to document meaningful moments for families and communities, as well as contributing to editorial and community-centered initiatives that preserve real stories and connections.
What sets my work apart is the combination of an international cultural background, an analytical eye shaped by my academic experience, and a strong focus on authenticity. Over the years, I have developed a very attentive observation of light, detail, and human expression, and I strive to create sessions that feel relaxed, natural, and genuinely enjoyable.
At the heart of my work is the desire to create images that feel real, timeless, and emotionally honest. I want my clients to look at their photographs years from now and still recognize the connection, the atmosphere, and the story behind that moment. For me, photography is not just about how an image looks, but about how it makes people feel and what it helps them remember.

I would simply like to express my gratitude to the community that has welcomed me so warmly since I arrived in the United States. As someone who has lived in different countries, I truly value the connections and relationships that make a place feel like home.
Photography has allowed me to meet incredible families, organizations, and individuals, and each story I document becomes a meaningful part of my own journey.
More than anything, I hope my work encourages people to value their memories while fully appreciating the present moment.
