Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Nunez.
Hi Holly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my career after graduating from Houston Community College with a degree in Fashion Imaging and Merchandising. I’ve been helping people with personal styling since I was 24, and now, as I approach 50, I realize it has always been my passion.
For many years, styling was something I did on the side because I loved helping people look and feel their best. In 2024, several people encouraged me to turn that passion into a real business, and I officially launched Styled Closets by Holly.
What started as a side gig has truly become a joy. I help clients, both women and men feel confident, inspired, and at ease in their closets. Some clients need a full wardrobe overhaul, while others want to refresh their style, create outfits from what they already own, or accessorize in ways that elevate their look. I also create personalized digital lookbooks, so clients can effortlessly pull up outfit combinations from their phones.
One of my favorite parts of the work is the charity aspect. After a session, I’m happy to take gently used clothing and donate it, either to a charity of the client’s choice or to organizations close to my heart, including Dress for Success, Charity Guild of Catholic Women, Houston Area Women’s Center, and The Beacon. Helping clients feel good while also giving back to the community brings me so much joy.
I’m most proud of the confidence and happiness my clients gain. What sets me apart is that I don’t just organize or style—I act as a closet therapist, combining fashion expertise with practical solutions and emotional support. My goal is to help clients rediscover their style, curate outfits that work for them, and feel inspired every time they open their closet.
Houston has such a vibrant and diverse community, and I love working with local clients who want their style to evolve with their lives. Being able to help people across Houston feel confident, organized, and inspired in their own closets is truly the heart of what I do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not entirely and that’s part of what makes it so rewarding. Starting a business is always a learning curve, and for me, it meant shifting from doing styling on the side to fully committing to making it my professional focus. There were challenges in figuring out the business side. You know, pricing, marketing, and building a client base from scratch.
Another challenge is helping people see the value in investing in themselves and their style. Many clients don’t realize how empowering it can be to have a closet that truly works for them until they experience it firsthand. But overcoming these challenges has been so worth it. Each success, each client who leaves feeling confident and inspired, makes the effort meaningful.
At the end of the day, the road hasn’t always been smooth—but the joy of helping people feel confident, organized, and inspired makes every challenge worthwhile.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I help people transform their closets into spaces that feel calm, inspiring, and truly their own. I specialize in combining organization with personal styling, helping clients rediscover what they already own, create outfits they love, and let go of pieces that no longer serve them. Why are we hanging on to clothes that no longer fit our lifestyle, our age, our bodies? Our priorities change as we get older, and I help clients make space for what really works for them now.
What I’m really known for is the way I make people feel in their own space. I walk in with empathy and no judgment, creating a calm, safe environment where clients feel comfortable and at ease. Some have told me that after I leave, they’ll go sit in their closet just to enjoy the peace and happiness it brings.
I think of myself as a kind of closet therapist—my work isn’t just about organization or style, it’s about helping people reconnect with their wardrobe, simplify their space, and feel joy every time they get dressed. That ability to combine empathy with practical styling and thoughtful editing is what sets me apart, and it’s also what I’m most proud of.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think risk-taking is an essential part of growth, both personally and professionally. One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was turning a lifelong passion into a full-fledged business. I had been doing personal styling on the side for over 20 years, but in 2024, I officially launched Styled Closets by Holly. Leaving the comfort of a side gig and committing fully to building a business from scratch was both exciting and intimidating, but it has been incredibly rewarding.
Another form of risk I take every day is stepping into someone’s personal space…literally. Many clients are embarrassed by their closets or nervous about someone “going through” their things. But once I start, I help them feel at ease, and they are often so happy with the transformation. Guiding someone through change, whether in their closet or their style, takes trust—and that willingness to be vulnerable is a risk in itself.
For me, risk isn’t something to fear, it’s an opportunity to create growth, transformation, and confidence. The risks I’ve taken have brought joy, fulfillment, and the privilege of helping people feel their best every day.
