Check Out Megan King’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan King.

Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Emo Night HTX started in January of 2023 with our first event at Hunter’s Pub. We provided a free, one-hour live emo show with karaoke, and it was packed with people from all over the city! From that moment on, we knew we were onto something special and decided to expand our vision.

By May of 2023, we were booking multiple bands and providing hours of live music, along with customized, themed drink menus, photo backdrops, karaoke, and more! We now book a strong roster of incredible bands, providing emo, alternative, pop, and metal music for our events. Our feature band is Shosty, Houston’s only female-fronted emo & pop punk variety cover band.

Currently, our events are selling out venues across Houston, from Dan Electro’s to Scout Bar to Warehouse Live and everywhere in between. We work with a variety of vendors, tattoo artists, and top-notch bands to provide immersive, safe, and fun emo nights that are welcoming to all.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have dealt with some hesitance from venue owners about booking an emo night because it can seem too niche or like it won’t sell to a larger market. That said, as we’ve seen from the rise of emo nights locally and nationally, it’s definitely not a phase and millennials will gladly show up to hear the nostalgic hits of their childhood.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in throwing LIVE emo nights which include bands, karaoke, photo backdrop, tattoo artists, vendors, themed drink specials, and more. We customize events and setlist for various themes, and can also provide entertainment for private parties as well. We pride ourselves on providing a nostalgic and fun event in a safe and inclusive environment.

We are most proud of the community we have built over the last 3 years. Guests at our events have been able to connect with each other to form deep friendships over common interests, and we love seeing everyone vibing together and enjoying the songs they grew up listening to. We consistently receive feedback that our events are positive, fun, and safe spaces for “emo kids” young and old to enjoy.
