Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Ly.
Hi Tracy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into the beauty industry actually started unexpectedly when I brought my mom to her microblading appointment years ago. Ironically, I now specialize in a more advanced technique called nano brows. I remember watching the transformation happen not just physically, but emotionally as well. After the appointment I saw a new sense of confidence in my mom and at the same time, I was fascinated by the passion and artistry of the artist performing the service. I didn’t think people could like working… That experience stayed with me and planted the seed for what would eventually become my career.
At the time, I felt a strong calling toward this path but funny enough, I didn’t take the leap until almost five years later because I chose the more traditional route after high school. Mosty because I was scared and has lots of self doubt. I completed my business degree, but throughout that time I still felt lost trying to figure out what truly fulfilled me creatively and personally. Looking back now, that moment with my mom was really the beginning of everything.
I started specializing in permanent makeup, particularly nano brows and I slowly built my clientele through word of mouth and social media. Over the years, I became known for creating very natural-looking brows with a strong attention to detail, which helped grow my business organically throughout my city. I continued investing heavily into advanced education and training because I genuinely fell in love with the craft and the impact it could have on someone’s confidence.
As my business grew, so did my vision. I realized I wanted to create more than just a beauty business. I wanted to build a space that empowered both clients and artists. That eventually led to co-founding Beauty Ave Salon Collective, blessed with an amazing team. We offer all services like permanent makeup, brows, lashes, hair and hair extensions and spray tans.
Today, Beauty Ave represents so much more to me than beauty services. It’s about community, mentorship, creativity, and helping people feel confident in themselves. Looking back, it’s funny to think that it all started from sitting beside my mom during one appointment that completely changed the direction of my life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were a lot of moments along the way where I questioned myself, especially in the beginning stages of building my business during COVID. I still remember a point where I had only 19 cents left in my bank account while trying to figure out how to make my brow business work. It was an incredibly stressful and uncertain time.
There were many ups and downs, slow months, and moments where I wondered if I needed to choose a different career path altogether. But deep down, I don’t think giving up ever truly felt like an option for me. I knew I had to find a way to make it work.
Looking back now, every difficult season in my business actually ended up becoming a blessing in disguise. Those challenges forced me to pivot, think differently, become more creative, and adapt. Some of the biggest breakthroughs in my business came right after some of the hardest moments. Whether it was improving my craft, changing my marketing approach, building my social media presence, or expanding my vision beyond just being a solo artist, those struggles pushed me to grow both personally and professionally.
There’s been a lot of learning along the way, and I think entrepreneurship constantly tests your confidence and resilience. One of the biggest things I had to learn was how to trust myself and trust that I would eventually figure things out, even when I couldn’t fully see the path ahead yet. I think that mindset is a huge part of what got me to where I am today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Tracy Ly Beauty Inc. & Beauty Ave Salon Collective?
My main beauty page and business is Tracy Ly Beauty Inc. where I perform my services along with my small team. I also co-own a salon call Beauty Ave Salon Collective which was created with the vision of building more than just a traditional salon. I wanted to create a space that combined high-level artistry with community, collaboration, and an elevated client experience. Our collective brings together talented beauty professionals who are passionate about their craft while creating an environment where both clients and artists feel supported, inspired, and comfortable.
Personally, I specialize in advanced permanent makeup, particularly nano brows, which is a very detailed technique designed to create ultra-natural hair strokes customized specifically to each client’s facial features, bone structure, and natural brow pattern. Over the years, I’ve become known for creating soft, natural-looking results that enhance someone’s features without looking overly bold or artificial. That natural approach and attention to detail is something clients throughout Calgary really seek us out for.
What sets our brand apart is that we truly focus on the overall experience and long-term relationship with our clients, not just the service itself. We take a very personalized and educational approach, making sure clients feel informed, comfortable, and confident throughout the process. We also place a huge emphasis on continuous education and growth within our team so we can continue providing high-quality services that evolve with the industry.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Beauty Ave has grown into a space that feels empowering not only for clients, but also for the artists within it. Building a business that supports other beauty professionals, encourages creativity, and fosters genuine community has probably been the most fulfilling part of the journey for me. I want readers to know that at the core of our brand is the belief that beauty is about enhancing confidence in a way that still feels authentic and true to the individual.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I also love how multicultural the city is. There’s so much inspiration in the food, people, culture, and overall energy of Houston. If I had to choose one thing, probably the traffic…
