Hidden Gems: Meet Marianna Crump of Movement + Control Pilates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marianna Crump.

Hi Marianna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t start Pilates as a career plan, I started as a client. A few years ago I walked into my first session and quickly fell in love with how it made me feel: stronger, more connected and truly in control of my body. It wasn’t just a workout, it was something deeper. And that feeling made me want to understand it more.

So I did. I went all in: pursuing my comprehensive certification through Peak Pilates and fully committing to the classical method.

Before Pilates, my world looked very different. I worked in sports journalism for years, side by side with professional athletes. That experience stayed with me and today it shapes the way I teach. My approach blends classical Pilates with an athletic, strength-focused edge, structured, intentional and results-driven.

After years of training, learning and working with clients I opened my own private studio, Movement + Control Pilates, in Katy, Texas. From the very beginning I chose to focus on one-on-one sessions, creating a space where every client gets a personalized, focused experience. That’s still the heart of what I do.

Today, I work with a wide range of clients, from complete beginners to athletic individuals, helping them build strength, relieve back pain, improve posture and feel confident in their bodies again. Everything we do is intentional, controlled and built around the person in front of me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most of my growth has come through word of mouth and recommendations from my mentor, which I’m incredibly grateful for. That kind of trust helped me build a solid foundation early on. That said, like any business, there were still challenges along the way. Starting my own studio meant stepping into a completely new role, not just as an instructor, but as a business owner. Learning how to manage scheduling, pricing, client communication and all the behind-the-scenes work was and still definitely a learning curve.

Balancing work with family life, especially with two kids, has also been something I’ve had to navigate and adjust over time.

But overall, those challenges helped me grow, not just as a business owner, but as a teacher, and shaped the way I run my studio today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Movement + Control Pilates?
