Check Out Charlize Cao’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlize Cao.

Hi Charlize, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Charlize, and my journey into the wedding and event industry has been anything but straightforward.

I first discovered my passion for planning back in 2016. I was drawn to the beauty of bringing people together, creating meaningful moments, and turning visions into reality. But at that time, life led me in a different direction. I chose to put my career aspirations on hold and focus on building a family.

Motherhood became my world, but it was also marked by deep challenges. After the heartbreaking loss of my third baby, everything shifted. That experience changed the way I saw life—it made me realize how precious time is, and how important it is to pursue what truly brings joy and purpose. In that moment of grief, I also found clarity.

I made one of the hardest decisions of my life: to leave behind the stability I had built over 12 years working at a cosmetology school. It was secure, familiar—but it was no longer where my heart was calling me.

I stepped into the unknown and began building a career in the event industry, combining all the skills and passions I had cultivated over the years. I started offering planning and coordination services, along with hair and makeup—helping clients not only organize their special moments but also feel confident and beautiful in them.

There were moments of doubt in the beginning—times when I questioned if I had made the right decision, if I was ready to rebuild from the ground up. But each small success, each happy client, and each beautifully executed event reminded me why I started. I wasn’t just planning events—I was creating experiences, telling stories, and honoring life’s most meaningful milestones.

Then came a defining moment: the opportunity to serve as both planner and stage director for the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2025 at Katy Mills. That experience meant so much more than just an event. It was a turning point—a moment that affirmed I was exactly where I was meant to be. Seeing everything come together, watching families gather, children laugh, and the community celebrate under one shared vision reminded me of the power of connection and culture.

Being trusted with such a meaningful community event strengthened not only my confidence, but also my sense of responsibility and purpose. It showed me that my work could go beyond individual celebrations—it could bring people together on a larger scale, creating memories that last far beyond a single day.

That milestone pushed me to dream bigger, to refine my craft, and to fully embrace my identity as both a planner and a creative visionary. I began to see new possibilities—expanding my services, building stronger relationships within the industry, and continuing to elevate every event I touch.

Today, I continue to grow in this journey, driven by passion, resilience, and purpose. I carry with me every lesson, every challenge, and every triumph that has shaped who I am today.

My story is one of rediscovery—of choosing courage over comfort, of turning pain into purpose, and of honoring the dreams that never truly left me.

And this is only the beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many new beginnings, starting my business was not easy.
In the early days, I faced more challenges than I ever expected. Stepping away from a stable career meant letting go of financial security, routine, and certainty. I was building something from the ground up, and there were moments when everything felt overwhelming. I had to learn how to run a business, find clients, manage finances, and establish my name in an industry that was already competitive.
There were times when opportunities were slow, when self-doubt crept in. Balancing motherhood while trying to grow a business added another layer of difficulty. My time, energy, and emotions were constantly being stretched, and there were days when exhaustion took over.
I also had to prove myself—not just to others, but to myself. Transitioning into the event industry meant stepping into a new identity. I wasn’t just Charlize who worked at a cosmetology school anymore; I was a business owner, a planner, a creative. That shift required confidence I didn’t always feel in the beginning.
There were mistakes along the way—events that didn’t go perfectly, moments where I had to think quickly under pressure, and experiences that pushed me far outside of my comfort zone. But each challenge became a lesson. Each setback made me more resilient, more resourceful, and more determined to keep going.
Slowly, things began to change. One client turned into another. One successful event led to new opportunities. Word of mouth started to grow. And with every step forward, I began to trust myself more.
Looking back, those struggles were necessary. They shaped not only my business, but also my strength, my mindset, and my purpose. They taught me patience, perseverance, and the value of believing in something even when the outcome is uncertain.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I do goes beyond simply planning events—I create experiences that reflect each couple’s story, culture, and vision.

With a background in fashion design from HCC, I bring an added layer of expertise that allows me to support brides in a very personal way. From styling guidance to bridal gown alterations when needed, I’m able to ensure that every detail—especially what the bride wears—fits beautifully and feels just right. This blend of fashion and event planning allows me to see the full picture, from the smallest detail to the overall aesthetic.

I specialize in wedding planning, coordination, and design, along with hair and makeup services. My strength lies in vision—being able to take an idea and transform it into a cohesive, elegant, and meaningful event. I’m known for my ability to design décor that feels intentional and personalized, while also finding practical, effective solutions for any challenges that arise along the way.

What I’m most proud of is my ability to stay calm under pressure and solve problems quickly. Weddings and events are full of unexpected moments, and I’ve learned how to navigate them with confidence, always keeping my clients’ experience at the center. I take pride in making couples feel supported, heard, and cared for throughout the entire process.

I pour my heart into every project I take on. I believe in being honest and transparent with my clients, always giving thoughtful guidance that truly serves their best interests. My business is built on a reliable, trustworthy foundation—where people know they can count on me not only for creativity, but also for integrity.

What sets me apart is not just my skill set, but the energy and experience I bring to my work. My business carries a warm, genuine, and dependable vibe. I connect deeply with my clients, and I treat every event as if it were my own. It’s not just about delivering a service—it’s about building relationships, creating trust, and making each moment feel effortless and memorable.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Behind my journey, there is one person who deserves so much credit—my husband.

From the very beginning, he has been my strongest supporter. When I decided to step away from a stable career and start my own business, not everyone understood or encouraged that decision. There were doubts, concerns, and voices telling me to play it safe. But my husband stood firmly by my side.

He believed in me even in moments when I was still learning to believe in myself. He supported me emotionally, encouraged me to keep going during difficult times, and gave me the confidence to invest in my dream when others hesitated. His trust in my vision gave me the courage to take risks and pursue the path I truly wanted.

Through every challenge, long nights, and uncertain steps, he has been there—patient, steady, and unwavering. Whether it was helping behind the scenes, offering advice, or simply reminding me why I started, his presence has made a meaningful difference in my journey.

Even the names behind my business carry his support and our shared story. “Do Bridal Wedding” comes from his last name, DO—a reflection of the foundation he helped me build. Later, we created “D&C Events,” which represents both of us—Do & Cao—our surnames combined. It’s more than just a name; it’s a symbol of partnership, unity, and everything we’ve built together.
