Life & Work with Davionne Coubarous of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Davionne Coubarous.

Hi Davionne, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Whats up everyone and thank you for taking the time out to read my story. My name is Davionne Coubarous, I’m originally from New Orleans but after Katrina I relocated to Houston which really became the place where I continued to grow into myself creative wise. My journey with the arts started at a young age with dance-it was my very first introduction to performing and storytelling. From that point I naturally transitioned into theatre, where I fell inlove with bringing characters to life and connecting with an audience. Even as a kid I was always creating. I use to write my own short scripts at home and perform them for my family, turning everyday moments into a full production honey. I’ve always been that person, if I can imagine it, I’m bringing it to life one way or another. That passion never left me it evolved. Film is where I’ve been able to combine everything I love about performing and the arts. Today I’m continuing to build my career as an actor, taking on more significant roles and opportunities and pushing myself to grow with every project.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, when has life ever been smooth anyway (deep sigh) . Theres been a lot of highs but also real life moments that tested every inch of me. I went through a divorce while still trying to chase my dream, being a mom and figuring out how to juggle it all. There were times I had to show up for auditions or projects while dealing with things behind the scenes. Just like putting on a show, the audience sees one thing but backstage or behind the lens its a total different mayhem. I also had to teach myself how to handle rejection. Those NO’s seem so loud, especially when you’re going through your own battles silently. Not booking roles, feeling unseen or overlooked. Moments like that had me questioning if I was on the right path at all. I learned to shift my mindset and understand that everything isn’t going to happen on my timing. Whats meant for me will always come when its suppose to. That faith grounded me and still grounds me. Although life is never smooth every challenge truly shapes you, makes you stronger and honestly make you appreciate every single win a whole lot more.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At my core I’m a creative. I love storytelling in any form – whether I’m in front of the camera, on stage or just creating my own work from scratch. I’ve always been the type to turn ideas into something real, and now I get to do that professionally with my acting career … which has been a blessing. I’m most proud of the fact that I didn’t quit. No matter what life threw at me, I kept going. That takes strength, I will always be proud of that. What sets me apart is my authenticity. I’m not out here trying to be like anybody else. I bring my real life experiences into every role, every audition every performance. I’ve lived, I’ve felt, I’ve been through things and that shows up in a way you just can not fake. I create from a genuine place; it’s my resilience, my story and just being ME. Thats what really sets me apart.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
So many truly deserve credit for being part of my journey. First and foremost GOD. I can write a book on that, my faith is strong and I know it’s because The King has his hands on me. Thats the most comforting feeling in my world. The Just Acting Up Show Podcast has been a huge part of my creative space. The Podcast is full of other actors/creatives who also has booked many projects themselves (James Joffrion, Tabitha Nicole, Chris Chatmon, Tashay Williams, and Michael Toliver. We’re more like family, that bond really keeps you grounded. I will always feel so humbled and blessed to have those amazing humans in my life. I host a segment on the show called Good Act Bad Act, where we do movie reviews. That platform has helped me stay sharp, stay vocal and keep building my voice. 360 Film Group is another major one (Trevor Ford, Lanisha Patterson, Chris Davison) I’ve been able to work with them on multiple projects giving me real on set experience and opportunities. Malcolm Dwain Carter also has played a role, he brought me on as a key character in his vertical series called The Shift which opened a whole new lane for me and helped expand a new type of work that I’m now able to step into. Also, Lorie Mitchell, we’re currently in production for her movie titled The Last Letter. I booked the lead role and so far that experience has really stretched me as an actor and showed me what I’m capable of. Ms Lorie takes so much pride in everything she creates and I’m excited to help convey her story. Antonio L Vines my boyfriend, (whose also an actor.) He understands the creative lifestyle. He has been my strength whenever I did reach those human moments where I felt like this was all too much. His support and love has kept me afloat. I can not end this with out shouting out my kids. Kasen Dixon and Miri Webb everything I do is for them. Looking into my children’s eyes seeing how proud they are of me knowing they will take what they learn and go out and be GREAT in this world. THAT is most important.
