Meet Ikenna Okoye of Nusun Properties

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ikenna Okoye.

Hi Ikenna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in my real estate journey back in the best year ever, 2020. I purchased my first house then and lived in it while working as in as Engineer in Seattle. As life would have it, I got laid off and ended up needing to move to Houston for work just 7 months after purchasing the house. That taught me to be agile pretty quickly because I had to decide between selling my first house and losing money or taking the jump into becoming a landlord. I tried to sell it at first, but luckily it didn’t work out, so i decided to pivot into renting. Now I’ve owned that property for 6 years. Since then, I’ve fix and flipped a 3 houses and purchased another rental. Mainly, I’ve also been working toward building a Wholesaling business where we connect homeowners in distress who need non-traditional home-selling solutions with buyers who fix and flip properties or rent them out to families as investments. This has been the most rewarding part of my real estate and business journey because you get to solve someone’s biggest problem or headache. You also get to contribute to modernizing neighborhoods one house at a time that would otherwise have been neglected. It’s a challenging business that I’m learning every day, but I stick with it because I know how rewarding it can be when done right.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s safe to say real estate investing is not an easy road at all. A lot of people starting out think you can just buy rentals and retire off the income, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Property repairs in the thousands of dollars at a time and tenants that don’t work out are some of the main challenges I dealt with owning real state so it’s good to be aware of this if you’re looking to buy property. Owning rentals is a long-term game. On the home renovation front, the unexpected expense, red tape with different cities permitting and really just the changing housing market make flipping pretty risky when you’re not paying attention or experienced enough to know when and where to buy. I’ve made money flipping and lost a lot as well, but that’s honestly part of the learning curve and you have to be willing to weather that storm in this game.

Yeah, so Nusun Properties specializes in helping homeowners who need to sell their houses typically quickly, for cash, as is, or any combination of the three. We buy houses that need complete renovations and houses that are brand new, but the key is we work with your situation, whether you just bought a house and you need to move across the country, like I did years ago or it was inherited and you don’t want to deal with it or the court system anymore. Other companies do this as well, but we separate ourselves from others by not cutting corners and we honor what we promise. This shines through with a client we have been working with for over 2 years to sell his grandfather’s house with home title issues. That’s commitment to serving our clients.
