Today we’d like to introduce you to Markya Dowdell.
Hi Markya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Everything I’m building now really started from a place of wanting more for myself. I’ve always been someone who cared about how I present myself, especially when it comes to beauty and confidence, and over time that naturally turned into an interest in entrepreneurship.
I started my brand, KyLuxury Extensions, with the goal of creating something that represents quality, confidence, and a luxury experience for everyday women. I didn’t want it to just be about selling hair, but about helping women feel elevated and put together.
At the same time, I’ve been growing my presence on social media, which opened doors for me to explore content creation and collaborations with different brands. That’s allowed me to step into a space where I can combine creativity, business, and self expression.
My journey hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been very intentional. I’ve focused on discipline, consistency, and building something that aligns with who I am. Right now, I’m continuing to grow both my brand and my platform, and I’m excited about everything that’s ahead.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the more recent challenges for me has been stepping into a rebrand and allowing myself to evolve. I’ve been transitioning into a more polished, model-focused image, which requires a different level of discipline, presentation, and consistency.
Rebranding can be uncomfortable because it pushes you out of what people are used to seeing from you. It takes confidence to refine your image and move in a new direction while still staying true to yourself.
For me, it’s been about becoming more intentional with how I show up, from my content to my overall aesthetic. It’s not just about looking good, but about aligning my image with the level I’m stepping into as both a brand owner and a creator.
That transition is still ongoing, but it’s been a powerful part of my growth.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a business owner, content creator, and actress, and my work sits at the intersection of beauty, branding, and self-expression. I own KyLuxury Extensions, a hair extensions brand focused on quality, confidence, and creating a luxury experience for everyday women.
Alongside that, I create content that highlights beauty, lifestyle, and personal growth. Recently, I’ve been more intentional about evolving my image and stepping into a more polished, model-focused space, which has opened up new opportunities for collaborations and creative direction.
I also have a passion for acting, which allows me to express different sides of my personality and creativity. That background influences the way I approach content, from how I present myself on camera to how I tell stories visually.
I would say I specialize in creating content that feels elevated but still relatable. I focus on clean aesthetics, strong presentation, and consistency, which allows me to connect with my audience while also maintaining a brand-focused approach.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building my brand from the ground up and continuing to grow it while also expanding my presence as a creator and creative. It’s been a process of learning, adapting, and staying committed to my vision.
What sets me apart is my ability to combine business, creativity, and performance. I’m not just focused on content, but on building something long-term. Everything I do is intentional, from how I present myself to the brands I work with, and that mindset continues to shape the direction I’m going.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve definitely had support along the way, and I’m grateful for the people who have encouraged me to keep going and stay focused on my goals. Whether it’s friends, family, or people who have believed in what I’m building, that kind of support makes a difference, especially during the early stages.
I also give a lot of credit to my customers and supporters. Anyone who has supported my brand, engaged with my content, or shared my work has played a role in my growth. That continued support has helped me build confidence in what I’m creating.
At the same time, a big part of my journey has been learning how to rely on myself and stay disciplined. I’ve had to figure a lot out on my own, and that process has shaped me into who I am today.
So while I appreciate everyone who has supported me, I also take pride in the work I’ve put in and the consistency it’s taken to keep growing.
