Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Blair.
Hi Whitney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a passion for music, especially the production side of it. Producers like Pharrell Williams and DJ Mustard heavily influenced me growing up. I was always the go-to person for curated playlists or the “human aux cord” at parties and events because people trusted my taste in music and the vibe I could create.
In 2023, while working at AT&T, one of my coworkers noticed the music I played on the Bluetooth speaker every day and acknowledged my ear for music. He asked me if I had ever thought about DJing. I told him yes, but honestly, I had no idea where to start. Around that time, I was already following and admiring DJs in my city like Saynt Chris, DJ Cee Watts, DJ Amarji, and DJ Mr Rogers. Seeing the impact they had inspired me to find my own lane and put my own touch on the culture.
Literally the week we went to Barracks Studio, he showed me the basics, and from there the rest was history. I bought a Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 and spent countless hours practicing in my closet every single day until I got better. It was a lot of trial and error, but I stayed consistent, trusted the process, and kept improving. Now DJing has become more than just music for me it’s a way to connect with people, create experiences, and express myself creatively
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Once I actually started getting booked at venues and events, that’s when the real learning began. Like I said before, it was a lot of trial and error — learning how to read different rooms and crowds, understanding what music works for certain environments, and even learning the software itself. Every event teaches you something new.
I also learned quickly how important preparation is in this industry. You have to keep backup equipment, extra cables, flash drive literally extra everything because you never know what problem might come up the day of an event. One technical issue can change everything if you’re not prepared.
Over time, those struggles helped me grow and become more confident as a DJ. One thing I live by now is, “Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready,” like T.I. said. That mindset has helped me a lot throughout my journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a DJ who specializes in creating experiences and bringing energy to every event I’m a part of. My style is very open-format — I mix everything from hip-hop and R&B to neo-soul, throwbacks, feel-good music, and upbeat party records. I really pride myself on being versatile and knowing how to adapt to different crowds while still keeping my own sound and creativity in the mix.
One thing people know me for is my music selection and my ability to read the room. I pay attention to energy, timing, and creating moments that people actually remember instead of just playing random songs. Whether it’s a brunch, party, lounge, wedding, or community event, I want people to feel something when I’m DJing.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come in such a short amount of time. I started from practicing alone in my closet on a Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 with no real experience, and now I’m getting opportunities to DJ different events and build my name in the city. Everything I’ve learned has come from consistency, self-teaching, and staying dedicated to improving my craft.
What sets me apart is my authenticity and passion for music. I genuinely love music culture and connecting people through sound. I’m not trying to copy anybody else I want every set to feel like “DJ Whit.” I also understand the importance of professionalism, preparation, and creating a vibe that fits the moment. I think people can feel when someone truly cares about the experience they’re creating, and that’s something I bring every time I DJ.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by booking me for events, parties, weddings, lounges, brunches, pop-ups, community events, and more. I’m also always open to collaborating and even shadowing other creatives in the city because I’m big on learning and growing. I feel like you can never have too much knowledge or experience, especially in the creative and music space.
I’m continuing to grow my brand through content, live events, networking, and creative collaborations in fashion, lifestyle, nightlife, and entertainment. Support can be as simple as sharing my content, pulling up to events I’m DJing, recommending me to others, or engaging with my mixes and platforms.
