Hi MacKenzie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Minnow Wellness was founded by MacKenzie Richter and Bianca Holland, two Houston moms with business backgrounds. One experiencing post-partum and one experiencing perimenopause, neither could find the health care environment or provider who could really support their preventative care in a holistic, functional way. They set out to create the clinic – designed by women, for women – they would want to become patients of. Fast forward 2-years later, Minnow Wellness is a team of 7 women on a shared mission to support one woman at a time. We are honored to serve over 200 women on their path to optimal wellness, through a functional lens.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle we face is the evolving landscape of patient care as it transitions from a very conventional, traditional care system to a more functional root-cause system. Medical Schools, Institutions, Research Departments, Government Organizations, Legacy Healthcare Systems and therefore Regulations and Product Development all exist on an out-dated model of reactive care, led by insurance and corporate protocols. Our patients are simply demanding more now: more transparency, more individualized, precise care, and more whole person care. This cultural shift impacts our hiring, billing, and patient education, but we are hopeful we are on the right track as a society.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a women’s-only functional medicine clinic in Houston, Texas focused on hormonal balance, gut health, and metabolic function. We have a concierge membership offering which seeks to be a one-stop healthcare stop for women, all providers under one roof. I am the most proud that we do not silence symptoms. We view symptoms as our body’s only way of communicating that something is off. We value investigation and getting to the root cause of an issue. A driving purpose for our whole team is the number of stories we hear from women who felt at the end of their rope, and they found hope after coming to Minnow.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Alignment with Purpose, Ability, and Task. That alignment gives me the motivation, persistence, belief, resilience, and confidence to stick it out long term.
