Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalon Thomas.
Hi Jalon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Jalon Thomas, and I’m from Houston, Texas. I’ve been acting for over 15 years. I started when I was 10 years old doing church plays, and ever since then I fell in love with the craft. Acting stayed with me throughout my school years, and in high school I even earned a scholarship for acting, which allowed me to continue pursuing it in college.
In 2022, I took a major risk that changed everything for me. I attended 50 Cent’s Tycoon Weekend event in Houston and auditioned in front of a lot of celebrities and industry people. During that experience, Lil Zane encouraged me and told me about an audition happening in Houston through Elmore Vision for the movie Perc 30. I went to the audition, gave it everything I had, and booked my first role. From that moment on, everything started changing for me.
Since then, I’ve continued working on films and productions while building my career step by step. Recently, I was on set where I originally came in as an extra, but by staying ready, taking initiative, and trusting God, I was blessed with a bigger opportunity and ended up receiving a role in the movie. Being on set with people like Lil Scrappy and Hassan Johnson from The Wire showed me how real this dream is becoming for me.
Acting is something I truly love with all my heart. If I could do this every single day for the rest of my life, I would. My goal is to turn acting into my full-time career and continue traveling wherever the opportunities take me — Atlanta, California, New York, or anywhere else. I want to keep growing, learning, and booking role after role while inspiring others from where I come from.
Coming from Houston, a lot of people don’t always get the opportunities I’ve been blessed to experience, so I never take any of this for granted. I believe God has been opening doors for me, and I’ll continue trusting Him throughout this journey. I’m also thankful for the people who have supported me along the way — my Mom , my Godmother Pam, my fiancée, and everyone who believed in me. Even to the people who doubted me, I still wish them nothing but success and blessings. I truly want to see everybody win.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges for me has been balancing real life responsibilities while chasing my dream as an actor. There were times I had to work regular jobs while still trying to make auditions, network, and stay consistent with my craft. A lot of people don’t see the sacrifices, the long nights, the self-doubt, or the times you hear “no” before finally hearing “yes.”
Another challenge was taking risks and believing in myself even when opportunities weren’t guaranteed. Coming from Houston, not everybody gets access to the entertainment industry or knows how to navigate it, so I had to learn a lot on my own. There were moments where I questioned myself, but I kept pushing because acting is something I truly love.
I also faced challenges with people doubting me or not always understanding my vision, but I used that as motivation instead of letting it stop me. Through it all, my faith in God kept me grounded. I truly believe God has been opening doors for me and placing the right people in my path at the right time.
Even with the struggles, every obstacle taught me something and made me stronger. It made me appreciate every opportunity even more. I’m still growing, still learning, and still chasing bigger goals, but I know this journey is part of my purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an actor and creative from Houston, Texas, and I specialize in bringing real emotion, authenticity, and energy to every role I take on. I’ve been acting for over 15 years, starting with church plays at 10 years old and continuing through high school and college, where I earned an acting scholarship. Since then, I’ve continued building my career through independent films, streaming projects, and networking opportunities that have helped me grow in the entertainment industry.
What I’m most proud of is my journey and consistency. I didn’t come from a big industry background or have everything handed to me. I took risks, stayed patient, trusted God, and kept working on my craft even when things got difficult. Booking my first role after attending 50 Cent’s Tycoon Weekend was a major turning point for me because it showed me that taking chances and believing in yourself can truly change your life.
I’m also proud of being able to turn opportunities into bigger moments. Recently, I was brought onto a set as an extra, but through hard work, professionalism, and faith, I ended up receiving a role in the production and sharing the set with talented people like Lil Scrappy and Hassan Johnson from The Wire. Moments like that motivate me to keep pushing toward bigger goals.
What sets me apart is my passion, authenticity, and hunger to grow. I genuinely love acting and storytelling. I’m willing to learn, travel, network, and put in the work every day to become the best actor I can be. I also want my journey to inspire others from Houston and from communities where opportunities can feel limited. I want people to see that with faith, consistency, and dedication, anything is possible.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, people could always tell I was an entertainer. I’ve always loved making people laugh, bringing positive energy around others, and expressing myself creatively. Personality-wise, I was funny, motivated, outgoing, and always the type to encourage people to do better and chase their goals.
I’ve always believed in staying positive no matter what and never giving up, even during difficult times. Growing up, I loved being around music, entertainment, sports, and performing, and I naturally enjoyed being in front of people. Whether it was church plays, school events, or just making people smile, entertaining others always came naturally to me.
I also grew up with a mindset of wanting to see everybody win. I’ve never been the type to hate on others or compete in a negative way. I genuinely love motivating people, supporting others, and spreading positivity because you never know what someone is going through. That mindset, along with my passion for acting and storytelling, helped shape me into the person I am today.
