Today we’d like to introduce you to Zubair Hassan.
Hi Zubair, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Having grown up with a twin brother and younger and older sister, there was alot of pressure for us to be successful in life. Having a huge extended family added to that pressure since we all were compared to our cousins which were either older than us or the same age as us. Through out life I’ve worked many retail jobs, it’s only in my late 30’s which I learned my gift of being able to connect with others on an emotional level. After discovering this talent, I started working at Bahama Mama in hopes of getting my own store one day. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case but that experience allowed me to master my skills and manifest the store I have today. Once I left them, I decided I wasn’t going to work for anyone else other than myself, I strongly believed it would happen even though I didn’t have any funds to invest. I had a vision and more importantly I believed in myself when others didn’t, which led me to secure a partner and the location for my shop. I’ve worked here for about 2 1/2 yrs daily from open to close. I discovered my creative side which I had no knowledge of until I got this location and treated it like a blank canvas. I’ve built many great relationships with my customers over the last few years which I’m grateful for. I love to have a positive effect on others and inspire them to be the best version of themselves. I believe good things happen to those who have pure intentions towards others and are genuine.. I feel very blessed to be in the position that I am in, being able to put a smile on my customers face while doing what I love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve encountered many obstacles and challenges on my journey in becoming a business owner. One of the of biggest one being able to share my vision and getting others to believe in it. Having been unemployed for the last ten years, those who were the closest to me, whom I relied on, didn’t think I would amount for much in my life. This was emotionally hard to deal with but I have learned through that one must believe in themselves even when no one else does. The second biggest obstacle was finding the right partner and securing funding to make my vision come to reality. Having to deal with such issues while going thru a divorce wasn’t easy but it allowed me to use my pain to express myself and create such a beautiful shop.

At Z’s Smoke Shop,I strive to help my customers with their smoking needs. I am here to create a welcoming environment and educate the customers with different products which will help reach their desired goals. Being in such a competitive industry, what sets me apart from others is how different my shop looks compared to others. The shop attracts alot of customers and non customers due to its aesthetics. Not only the look and vibe of my shop different from others but most important factor is that I as the owner is here 11 hrs a day. My customers really appreciate and see the dedication I have in running my business. I’m known for being able to connect with my customers on an emotional level, which in results in positive sales. I do believe that I’m a genuine and honest person which allows my customers to trust me resulting in them viewing me as a great sales person. I offer variety of products which help customers with dealing from stress and anxiety to pain relief. At Z’s Smoke Shop I also want to give back to the community and give others a chance to follow their passions, I want to have a vendors market twice a month, where local vendors can sell their services and products. I’m a strong believer that good things happen when you do good for others. It always comes back in ways one can’t imagine.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe that being a genuine and honest is the most important qualitly to my success. Treating others genuinely how you want to be treated is extremely important when you want to build trust and a loyal customer. My customers know they can trust me with the information they receive from me and that I’m not just trying to sell them something just to make a sale. The ability to emotionally connect with my customers or for anyone who walks into my shop has been vital to my success in such a competitive industry.
