Meet Tameara Janise of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tameara Janise.

Hi Tameara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tameara Janise! I am an artist and entertainer from Acres Homes in Houston, Tx. I’ve grew up performing my whole life. Started dancing and performing at the age of 3. Ive been in many performances around the world and have been very grateful to have experienced the things that I have experience. I have always had a feeling as though I was different. Growing up all my peers would say was they wanted to be nurses, doctors, teachers while I would always say I wanted to be an entertainer and entrepreneur. Don’t get me wrong nothing is wrong with that at all shout out to them. My mom’s a teacher has been for years and my best friend is a nurse and I’m so proud of them. I just never heard of being an artist and entertainer as being a real career growing up.
In 2020 everything drastically changed for me and my family. Suddenly my dad passed away and broke my heart into pieces. It was a very dark time for me. Before he passed we would always play around singing through the house different songs. He really loved Anita Baker, Luther Vandross and Frankie Beverly & Maze. So we looked for some vocal lessons in Houston. And he started taking me to them every Friday evening for about six months until he passed.
After that I stopped everything and was super devastated. In 2023 I picked up music again and decided to give it a go. I definitely still have my days but it has been a beautiful experience so far. It definitely takes you on a roller coaster of emotions when you’re trying to make a long lasting impact on the scene. I grew up listening to iconic people. So that’s what I’m going to be iconic.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been any easy road for me my whole life has changed from being me being a dancer and choreographer to me now being a singer having to express my voice and my emotions in front of people I don’t know. I couldn’t understand why God would just uproot my life and have me in a whole new career when I was already doing something for so long. But I had to learn to trust God and to know he has my best interest in life. He’s giving me words to say and a voice to start using. So I always ask him for a bold and courageous spirit when I’m about to go out and perform. And he gives me just that! I am nothing without Jesus Christ.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I mostly sing rhythm and blues. My style is more 90’s rnb but with a twist of H-town. I am a very well rounded individual. I don’t just sing I give you a whole experience when I perform. I think outside of the box. I’m very creative when it comes to my sets and music videos. I was always a visual learner so I like to see an artist and their process and feel like I’m involved in there whole experience. So that’s what I do. It’s so cool to see where I’ve started and how far I’ve already come. Sometimes I have to remember that I just started dropping music because I’m so hard on myself. I’ve already accomplished so much. One of my biggest accomplishments was performing at White Oak Music Hall. Shoutout to a Houston Artist named Tillo. He’s always showed me love and also gave me my first opening music performance. I’m so excited to see where this journey takes me. What sets me apart from others is I don’t see any other path for me I don’t have a plan B because I’m going to make my plan A work and that’s just how it’s going to be.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I originally had this interview question:

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?

Then I clicked off to write for it when I clicked back on it the question it was different. So my answer is for the first question I clicked on since I already wrote to it.

The quality that is most important to have success is my ability to not give up. No matter how long it takes. If it’s on Gods will for you to do it nothing and no one can stop you. Keep going because as soon as you give up 9 times out of 10 your breakthrough and blessing is on the other side. Now you just missed it which is heartbreaking. God will give you the blessing but you must put in the work! Whatever I set out to do I make sure to give it my all. Always pray before you do anything and make and decision. Having a prayer life has to be one of my best characteristics. If you don’t have one it’s not too late to get started.
