Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmondy Duhon.
Hi Carmondy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As an undergraduate Communication Disorders major, I was always aware of the importance of bridging communication gaps and creating meaningful opportunities for individuals to thrive. My professional journey began when I started working as a Registered Behavior Therapist, where I was introduced to the power of positive reinforcement and the impact it can have on student behavior and development. That experience gave me a deeper understanding of how individualized support can truly transform a child’s learning experience.
I later transitioned into special education, where I provided supports such as token boards, visual schedules, and educational resources to help students navigate their academic journeys successfully. Watching children gain confidence and thrive with the right support systems inspired the creation of The Ms. Duhon Effect — an educational platform designed to empower students and parents through learning, advocacy, and accessible resources.
As I witnessed the growing need for educational support and parent advocacy within the school system, I expanded my vision to include personalized learning kits and tools that help bridge educational gaps in engaging and meaningful ways. What started as a passion project quickly grew into something much bigger than I imagined. Seeing parents connect with the resources and watching children gain confidence through learning reminded me that this work is truly my calling.
As an ABA-trained, Special Education certified, Dyslexia-trained educator and Master of Speech-Language Pathology candidate, I have come to understand that my purpose is to inform, inspire, and positively impact those around me through education, communication, and service.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I have faced obstacles ranging from fear of failure and rejection to creative blocks while designing and personalizing the company. There were also external voices discouraging me along the way people saying the educational market was oversaturated and that my company would not flourish. At times, I even received criticism from purchasers who felt the materials were “too much” for their scholars to learn.
However, those challenges ultimately strengthened my vision and pushed me to keep going. I created the workbooks and learning kits with the understanding that every child learns differently and deserves resources that can be tailored to their individual needs and learning styles. I had to learn that not everyone will immediately understand your vision, and that’s okay. Those experiences taught me resilience, confidence, and the importance of remaining true to my purpose. Every obstacle became motivation to continue creating meaningful educational resources that inspire both children and families.
We’ve been impressed with The Ms. Duhon Effect , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Ms. Duhon Effect was created with the goal of making learning engaging, accessible, and empowering for both students and parents. Through educational resources, individualized learning materials, and supportive services, I strive to create learning environments where children feel confident, capable, and excited to learn while also ensuring parents feel supported throughout the educational journey.
One of the things my brand is most known for is Ms. Duhon’s Little Learners Kits personalized educational kits designed to meet students where they are academically while making learning fun and interactive. What sets my brand apart is the level of individualization and care that goes into every resource. I understand that no two children learn the same, so I intentionally create materials that can be tailored to a child’s specific learning style, needs, and interests. I also pride myself on building genuine relationships with families and customers, because I believe trust, communication, and support are just as important as the educational materials themselves.
In addition to learning kits, I offer tutoring, parent education and support, and customized learning materials that help bridge educational gaps and encourage confidence in learning. Brand-wise, I am most proud of the impact the company has had on families and the way it has grown into a safe and supportive space for learning, advocacy, and empowerment. I want readers to know that The Ms. Duhon Effect is more than just a business it is a purpose-driven brand dedicated to helping children thrive and helping parents feel seen, heard, and supported along the way.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk-taking is a vital part of entrepreneurship and personal growth. Taking risks creates opportunities that can completely change the trajectory of your life. In many ways, the fear of taking risks is often rooted in the fear of failure. However, I believe you never truly discover your full potential if you allow fear to keep you from stepping outside of your comfort zone.
One of the biggest risks I took was believing in myself enough to turn my passion into a business, despite outside opinions and uncertainty. There were people who questioned whether the educational field was too oversaturated or whether my vision would succeed, but I chose to move forward anyway. Entrepreneurship requires faith, consistency, and the willingness to bet on yourself even when the outcome is not guaranteed. Every risk I’ve taken has taught me something valuable whether it resulted in success, growth, or redirection. Without risk, I would have never discovered the impact my brand could have on children, families, and the community.
