Life & Work with Crxss Bonex of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crxss Bonex.

Hi Crxss , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ive always been an artist and embraced it but once i took my first steps into the real world it felt like a delusional dream. After awhile of feeling like a part of myself was missing I decided to embrace what I loved most about myself again. I quit my warehouse job to start working as a studio assistant and once I was down to my last dollar my mentor helped me get the musuem/ installation jobs I work on today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life will always be a struggle. Moments if feeling like you are stuck falling off a cliff and there is no way out, but you learn to take it for what it is and make the most of it. Life will alway be hard but being able to love the hard as much as the good ,life will never bring you down. The struggles I have is feeling like I won’t make it past these hurdles life keeps throwing at me but having people around you to keep you motivated with their support and love you can accomplish anything. The hurdles life throws at you are there purely to help you grow into who you are destined to become. Embrace the hard and love the good in life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is constantly evolving just like me. I feel like art is a way of learning about yourself as well as communicating with one another. The last couple of art works I’ve made has been exploring the idea how ancient technology and modern technology go hand to hand. I made these salt sculptures to symbolize how we use to preserve different types of meats but I layered CDs/ DVDs on top. The CDs/DVDs symbolize how modern civilization used them to preserve information. The ideas run parallel to what i think society’s prioritize at the time. More recently, Ive starting to work more with CDs and seeing how different lights/mirrors reflect off the colors at different angles. it’s a work in progress but you know things change in time while you are making it. The best part in my opinion is having a vague idea and slowly start unraveling what you deem is important to communicate with other people around you.

How do you think about luck?
Luck is made up in your head to rationalize a coincidence. Life provides opportunities and how you go about it is what proves to what we deem as lucky or just happen to be at the right place at the right time. I think people around you want to help where they can, in society we should all want to see each other win. If the people around you don’t catch that vibe you in the wrong crowd pal. 😬👎🏼
