Life & Work with Leslie Margarita Sotelo of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Margarita Sotelo.

Hi Leslie Margarita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story began with a deep love for preserving moments that matter most. As a Houston wedding videographer, I believe a wedding film should feel more than beautiful — it should feel personal, emotional, and timeless. What started as a creative passion quickly became a calling to serve couples who value faith, family, legacy, and authentic connection. Since 2012, Leslie Margarita Films has been creating romantic, fine-art wedding films for couples in Houston and beyond, capturing not only how a wedding day looked, but how it truly felt.

Our approach blends cinematic storytelling with a documentary heart. We are drawn to the quiet in-between moments just as much as the grand celebrations — the tearful vows, joyful laughter, meaningful prayers, and the unspoken glances that become treasured memories for generations. As a luxury Houston wedding videographer, we intentionally craft films that are elegant, heartfelt, and rooted in legacy, creating heirlooms our couples can relive for years to come.

Based in Houston, Texas, and serving couples worldwide, Leslie Margarita Films is honored to work with classic and timeless couples who want more than a wedding video — they want their love story preserved with care, artistry, and grace.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the greatest challenges in our journey came in 2019 when my husband was diagnosed with cancer. At the time, we were still actively photographing and filming weddings while navigating doctor appointments, treatments, uncertainty, and the emotional weight that comes with a season like that. It was a time that deeply tested our faith, resilience, and commitment — not only to each other, but also to the couples who trusted us with some of the most meaningful days of their lives.

As a husband-and-wife team and a Houston wedding videographer, we learned how to continue serving others even in the middle of personal hardship. That season changed the way we approach weddings forever. We became more aware of how precious memories truly are, how quickly life can shift, and how important it is to preserve the people and moments we love while we have them.

Then, shortly after overcoming that chapter, the wedding industry was hit by the uncertainty of the 2020 pandemic. Like many small businesses, we faced postponed weddings, constant schedule changes, and an unknown future. But through faith, perseverance, and the support of our couples and community, we continued moving forward. Those seasons taught us how to lead with compassion, flexibility, and gratitude — values that still shape the experience we provide today as a luxury Houston wedding videographer.

Looking back, those challenges strengthened both our marriage and our business. They reminded us that weddings are about far more than details or aesthetics — they are about legacy, covenant, family, and celebrating love even in uncertain seasons.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets us apart is the heart behind everything we do. As a husband-and-wife team and a luxury Houston wedding videographer, we don’t see weddings as just events to document — we see them as the beginning of a legacy. Our approach is deeply personal, intentional, and rooted in genuine care for the couples we serve.

We believe the best wedding films come from trust and connection. From the very beginning, we focus on creating an experience where our couples feel comfortable, celebrated, and fully present. Many couples tell us they chose us not only because they loved our work, but because they felt truly seen and cared for throughout the process.

Our style blends fine-art cinematography with authentic storytelling. We are passionate about creating films that feel timeless rather than trendy — filled with vibrant emotion, natural moments, meaningful audio, and elegant imagery that will still feel beautiful decades from now. Every wedding is approached with fresh eyes because we believe every love story deserves to be told in a way that is personal and unique.

What also shapes our perspective is everything we’ve walked through ourselves. After overcoming personal hardships, including my husband’s cancer journey and navigating the uncertainty of the pandemic, we carry a much deeper appreciation for marriage, family, and fleeting moments. That perspective influences the way we film weddings today — with gratitude, compassion, and an understanding that these memories become priceless over time.

As a faith-rooted Houston wedding videographer, we intentionally take on a limited number of weddings each year so that every couple receives a high-touch, personalized experience. Our goal is not simply to deliver a beautiful film, but to create something that becomes part of a family’s story for generations to come.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was sitting with my grandparents and listening to them tell stories about their wedding day on their ranch in Mexico. I remember imagining every detail so vividly — the way they described the celebration, the people they loved gathered around them, and the joy they carried when they spoke about that day decades later. Even as a child, I always wished I could somehow see it with my own eyes.

I often thought about how incredible it would have been if they had a wedding video they could pass down to me — something that would allow future generations to not only hear their story, but experience it. To hear their voices, watch the way they looked at each other, and witness a piece of our family history preserved forever. That idea stayed with me for years and deeply shaped the way I view photography and filmmaking today.

As a teenager, I naturally became my family’s memory keeper. I was always the one bringing the camera to birthdays, holidays, vacations, and everyday moments. I took photos and videos of everything because I understood, even at a young age, that one day these moments would no longer exist except through memory. I never wanted the people I loved or the stories that shaped our family to simply fade with time.

That perspective is still at the heart of why I became a Houston wedding videographer. To me, wedding films are more than beautiful visuals — they are living family heirlooms. They preserve voices, movement, emotion, and memories in a way that future generations can experience long after the wedding day has passed. Every time I film a wedding, I think about the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who may one day watch it and feel connected to a love story that came before them.
