Daily Inspiration: Meet Alec Heuser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Heuser.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started in the film industry in Atlanta GA. I worked as a stand in on multiple mainstream projects with productions like Netflix, Starz, HBO, Prime Video, Marvel, Tyler Perry & more. I grew a love for film production and cinematography. Some life changes happened, and I ended up moving to Houston TX. I was serving on the media team at my church, and I had a lot of people come up to me asking if I did video production outside of church. At first I said no. My main interest was in film. But then it dawned on me, that I could leverage what I learned in film for everyday content creation. So I started Heuser Films. The goal was to bring cinema grade production to everyday content needs. At first I struggled. I had to do Uber to make ends meet, and even then I still didn’t. I was borrowing gear from friends for the shoots I did have. 2 years later, and now I’m working full time in the business generating consistent income. I’m in the process of venturing into marketing and building a bigger team. Right now, most of my clients have come from the church. Ultimately my goal is to expand into making short films and then feature films within the Houston sector.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. My biggest challenges have been marketing, gear limitation, and backend website issues. I’ve had to learn the different intricacies of everyday content creation that is different from movies. Like the different styles for weddings, podcasts, interviews, promos, etc. Even now, my website doesn’t get many views per month because of the lack of marketing and social media presence. However, I’ve been able to generate consistent business through church clients and word of mouth. I’m currently in the process of investing to get all the gear I need. I still currently rent out or borrow from friends who have production companies.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in making everyday content feel more like a movie. Our focus is capturing the moment in way that allows you to feel the emotion as if you were there. We capture weddings, podcasts, interviews, events, funerals, livestreaming, & promos all in way that resonates like a film.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would of spent more time building the right systems and marketing infrastructure than solely focusing on the delivery and execution of the service. While quality of service is very important, if you don’t have clients, you can’t execute on a service.
