Hidden Gems: Meet Temika Dixon of Impact Connections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Temika Dixon.

Hi Temika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a social worker, educator, and founder with over 20 years of experience working in healthcare, behavioral health, education, and community outreach. My career has always centered around helping people navigate systems and connect to the care, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Over the years, I noticed a major gap across healthcare and social services: people were often given referrals but not truly supported through the process of getting connected. As a social worker, I saw firsthand how overwhelming and fragmented systems could be for individuals and families. That experience inspired me to found Impact Connections, a technology enabled social care company focused on combining innovation with real human connection to improve access, engagement, and outcomes.

Before launching Impact Connections, I held leadership roles focused on community partnerships, business development, training, and program strategy across nonprofit, healthcare, and clinical settings. I’ve also taught social work and cultural competency courses at the university level, which reflects my passion for education, mentorship, and preparing future leaders in the field.

Today, I serve as the CEO of Impact Connections, where I lead strategy, partnerships, and program development while continuing to advocate for more equitable, community centered systems of care. I also continue teaching, mentoring, and collaborating with schools, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, and community leaders to expand access and create meaningful impact. My work sits at the intersection of social work, innovation, and community engagement, and I’m passionate about building solutions that help people feel seen, supported, and connected.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Building something mission-driven while navigating the realities of entrepreneurship, leadership, and life has come with a lot of challenges.

One of the biggest challenges has been building a company that sits at the intersection of social impact and technology. As a social worker entering the tech and startup space, I often found myself in rooms where my background was unconventional. I had to learn how to navigate business development, fundraising, operations, and technology while still staying true to the values that brought me into this work in the first place.

Another challenge has been balancing vision with sustainability. When you are deeply passionate about helping communities, it can be easy to overextend yourself. I’ve had to learn the importance of boundaries, strategic growth, and building the right partnerships and team around the mission.

Like many founders, I’ve also experienced moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and pivots. There have been operational challenges, leadership lessons, and moments where I had to make difficult decisions while continuing to move the organization forward. At the same time, I’ve balanced motherhood, leadership, and personal resilience through different seasons of life.

What has kept me grounded is my “why.” Every challenge has reinforced the importance of the work. Seeing the impact on individuals, families, students, and communities reminds me why I started this journey and why continuing to build equitable, human-centered solutions matters so much.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Impact Connections ?
Impact Connections is a technology-enabled social care and community engagement company focused on helping individuals and families get connected and stay connected to the care, services, and opportunities they need to thrive. We work at the intersection of social work, healthcare, education, and technology to create more accessible and community-centered systems of support.

What makes Impact Connections different is that we combine innovation with real human connection. Many systems stop at referrals or information-sharing, but we focus on engagement, follow-through, and relationship-building. Our approach is rooted in social work values, cultural competency, and understanding the real-life barriers people face when trying to access resources and services.

We specialize in community engagement strategies, care coordination support, social determinants of health initiatives, resource navigation, partnership development, and training. We also work closely with schools, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, and community leaders to create solutions that are practical, collaborative, and responsive to community needs.

One thing I’m especially proud of is that Impact Connections was built from lived experience, professional experience, and a genuine passion for helping people. As a social worker, I wanted to create something that not only addressed gaps in systems, but also treated people with dignity and compassion throughout the process. Our work is deeply relationship driven, and that has become one of the strongest parts of our brand.

I’m also proud that we are helping redefine what innovation can look like in social impact spaces. We show that technology and human connection do not have to compete, they can work together to create better outcomes for communities.

What I want readers to know most is that Impact Connections is not just about services or technology. It’s about building pathways to opportunity, improving quality of life, and making sure people feel seen, supported, and connected in ways that are meaningful and sustainable.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think people sometimes assume risk-taking always looks bold, loud, or fearless, but for me, risk has often looked like believing in myself and my vision even when there was no clear roadmap in front of me.

One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was stepping into the startup and technology space as a social worker. Those worlds are not always seen as naturally connected, and there were definitely moments where I questioned whether people would understand the vision behind Impact Connections. But I knew from years of experience that there was a real gap in how people access care, resources, and opportunities, and I believed that social workers and community-centered leaders deserved a seat at the innovation table too.

I’ve also taken risks by choosing purpose-driven work over comfort at times. Entrepreneurship requires a lot of faith, resilience, and adaptability. There have been moments where I had to make difficult decisions, pivot, rebuild, and continue moving forward without having every answer figured out. As a mother, leader, and founder, that can feel heavy sometimes, but I’ve learned that growth usually comes with discomfort.

At the same time, I don’t believe in reckless risk-taking. I’m strategic. I believe in doing my homework, building relationships, listening, learning, and moving with intention. My social work background actually shaped that part of me. It taught me how to assess systems, anticipate challenges, and stay grounded in people and outcomes.

Overall, I think risk is necessary if you want to create something meaningful or different. Some of the most transformative moments in my life and career came from stepping into rooms, opportunities, and ideas that initially felt bigger than me. I’ve learned that sometimes you just have to trust your vision, trust your experience, and be willing to grow as you go.
