Hi Esther, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Houston Mermaids began nearly nine years ago with a simple but deeply meaningful — vision creating elevated experiences that children and families would never forget.
At the time, there were no immersive mermaid entertainment companies in the Houston area. We recognized an opportunity to introduce something entirely different to the city — experiences rooted in emotional connection, immersive fantasy, luxury ambience, artistry, and meaningful storytelling.
From the very beginning, our goal was never simply to send performers to parties. We wanted every experience to feel cinematic, intentional, and emotionally transporting. Every detail — from a mermaid’s entrance and storytelling moments to the music, keepsakes, ambience, artistic performances, and farewell blessings — was thoughtfully designed to immerse children and families into a world that felt magical, imaginative, and unforgettable.
Over time, Houston Mermaids evolved into far more than entertainment. In many ways, it became a living art form — blending fantasy, visual storytelling, underwater performance, costume design, ambience, and emotional experience into something that feels both immersive and deeply memorable. Some of our favorite moments have come from creating imagery and experiences that feel almost dreamlike or cinematic, where families momentarily step into another world entirely.
What began as a unique idea quickly grew into something much larger. Over the years, Houston Mermaids has had the opportunity to bring immersive mermaid experiences to private celebrations, luxury venues, resorts, corporate gatherings, community events, and upscale experiences throughout the Houston area.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been witnessing the genuine awe on children’s faces when they first encounter a real-life mermaid. There is something incredibly special about watching a child become completely immersed in the fantasy of the moment — whether during a mermaid crowning, an artistic swimming performance, an underwater encounter, or the presentation of a personalized keepsake. Those emotional reactions and lifelong memories are truly at the heart of everything we do.
As Houston Mermaids has grown, we have intentionally continued evolving not simply as an entertainment company, but as an immersive experience brand focused on artistry, ambience, fantasy, and emotional storytelling. Every celebration is carefully curated with the child and family in mind because we understand these experiences often become cherished lifelong memories.
In many ways, Houston Mermaids has become somewhat of a hidden gem within the Houston area — something many people do not initially realize exists until they encounter it for themselves. And when they do, the reaction is often genuine awe. There is something uniquely special about seeing families experience a level of fantasy, beauty, and immersion they never expected to find locally.
Today, Houston Mermaids continues to grow creatively while remaining grounded in the same vision that inspired it from the beginning: bringing meaningful magic to Houston families through elevated experiences designed to leave lasting wonder long after the celebration ends.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most businesses built around highly personalized experiences, the road has come with its challenges, but many of those challenges have also shaped the standards Houston Mermaids is known for today.
One of the biggest challenges has been finding the right talent. Mermaid performance is an incredibly unique niche that requires a rare combination of artistry, professionalism, athleticism, creativity, and genuine connection with children. Our performers are not simply entertainers — they are trained professional mermaids who work closely with families and children while performing in custom silicone tails specifically designed for them. We intentionally use silicone tails rather than fabric tails because we believe in providing the highest quality immersive experience possible. For us, details matter, and we have always wanted Houston families to experience mermaid artistry at the highest standard.
Finding individuals who naturally embody all of those qualities is not always easy, which is why we are incredibly intentional about the team we build. What has been rewarding, however, is that once the right people become part of Houston Mermaids, they often remain deeply connected to the brand and the mission behind it. Over the years, we have built a close-knit team that genuinely cares about creating meaningful experiences for families.
Another challenge in the live entertainment industry is preparing for the unexpected. Events involving custom performers and immersive experiences require an enormous amount of coordination behind the scenes, and we have learned very quickly the importance of having strong systems, communication, and a dependable team culture in place.
One thing we are especially proud of is our commitment to reliability. Since Houston Mermaids began nearly nine years ago, we have never canceled a booked event. There have certainly been moments where unexpected situations required our team to work quickly behind the scenes, but our performers consistently support one another to ensure every child still receives the experience their family envisioned.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Houston Mermaids specializes exclusively in immersive mermaid entertainment experiences designed to feel far more elevated, cinematic, and memorable than traditional character appearances. From the very beginning, our vision has been to create experiences that transport families into an entirely different atmosphere — one filled with wonder, ambience, storytelling, elegance, imagination, and emotional connection.
What sets Houston Mermaids apart is that we approach mermaid performance as both an art form and a fully curated experience. We are not simply performers arriving at parties in costume — every interaction, performance detail, keepsake, entrance, activity, musical moment, visual presentation, and farewell experience is intentionally designed to create awe and lasting memories for our guests.
For birthday celebrations, we carefully craft experiences that place the child at the center of the magic. From personalized mermaid entrances and immersive storytelling moments to boutique-style keepsakes, elegant scroll presentations, mermaid necklaces, custom merchandise, and emotional farewell blessings, every detail is thoughtfully considered to create an experience that feels enchanting, cinematic, and unforgettable. Even our handcrafted mermaid crowns are intentionally designed to feel special and personal. Each crown is locally handmade by one of our mermaids using shells, sea-inspired details, and crystals, and no two crowns are ever exactly alike. We love knowing that children leave not only with memories, but with meaningful keepsakes that feel as though they were created uniquely for them. We want families to feel they experienced something rare and deeply intentional rather than a standard birthday performance.
For corporate events, luxury venues, resorts, and upscale gatherings, our focus expands beyond performance into atmosphere and ambience. Our mermaids are beautifully staged within the environment and engage naturally with guests to create an immersive setting that feels sophisticated, whimsical, visually stunning, and emotionally memorable. Whether at a private celebration, luxury resort, or corporate experience, we aim to create moments that leave guests talking long after the event is over.
One area we are especially intentional about is quality and realism. All of our performers use custom silicone mermaid tails rather than fabric tails because we believe in delivering the highest standard of visual artistry and immersion possible. The realism, movement, and elegance of silicone tails help transform the experience into something far more believable and breathtaking for guests of all ages.
Another aspect that makes Houston Mermaids unique is our decision to remain fully specialized in mermaid performance. While we have received many requests over the years to expand into additional character categories, we intentionally chose to focus exclusively on mermaid artistry so we could continue refining and elevating the experience with depth, excellence, and finesse. That commitment has allowed us to continually evolve creatively, including recently incorporating artistic swimming performances into select events featuring multiple mermaids. These synchronized routines add an entirely new layer of elegance, movement, ambience, and realism to the overall experience.
One accomplishment I’m especially proud of this year was investing in a complete revamp of our website and communication systems to create a more seamless and elevated experience for everyone who visits Houston Mermaids. I wanted every interaction with our brand to feel intentional, accessible, and memorable. Beyond simply providing a service, I’ve always wanted Houston Mermaids to create lasting memories — experiences that children and families carry with them long after the event is over.
Behind every event is also a dedicated event manager who helps ensure each celebration feels personalized, seamless, and thoughtfully coordinated. We never want families or clients to feel like their event is simply another booking. Every experience is approached with care because we understand that these moments often become cherished lifelong memories.
One of the things we are most grateful for as a brand is the number of families, venues, and organizations that continue returning to us for additional celebrations and experiences over the years. For us, that continued trust speaks volumes. It reinforces our belief that immersive experiences, meaningful storytelling, ambience, and emotional connection still matter deeply to people.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Honestly, little things make me happy.
Seeing a child completely immersed in imagination, watching a shy child light up during a mermaid interaction, or witnessing the pure awe on children’s faces the moment a mermaid arrives—those moments never stop being special to me. There’s something incredibly heartwarming about seeing children truly believe in the magic unfolding around them.
Some of the most meaningful moments are often the smallest ones: when a child is crowned at the end of their celebration, when a keepsake is gently handed to them, or when they hold onto a scroll or necklace as though it were the most important treasure in the world. Seeing the joy, excitement, and wonder on their faces in those moments is honestly pure joy for me.
I also love hearing parents say their child talked about the experience for weeks afterward or continued replaying the magical moments long after the party ended. It’s a reminder that thoughtfully created experiences really do leave lasting impressions.
Beyond Houston Mermaids, I think I’ve learned to appreciate simple moments more over the years—meaningful conversations, creativity, family, peaceful environments, beautiful ambience, laughter, and seeing people feel genuinely seen and valued. Sometimes the smallest moments end up becoming the most memorable ones, and I think that philosophy naturally found its way into how Houston Mermaids was built as well.
