Community Highlights: Meet Abbas Kanchwala of LUXUS ARCHITECTURAL GLASS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbas Kanchwala.

Hi Abbas, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my journey in glass at the age of 20, working alongside my father in our family’s manufacturing business in Asia. It was there that I learned not only the craft of glass, but the values that shape true workmanship, precision, patience, and the belief that every detail matters. Those early years laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong passion.

For decades, I carried one vision with me: to one day establish a company in the United States and bring a new perspective to architectural glass. It was a dream that stayed with me through years of experience, growth, and challenges.

At the age of 58, I made the decision to leave behind everything familiar my home, my business, and the life I had built and move halfway across the world to begin again from nothing. Starting over was not easy. It came with uncertainty, sacrifice, and countless challenges. But with grit, dedication, and faith in the vision, that dream began to take shape.

Today, Luxus Architectural Glass is the realization of that journey.

At Luxus, we bring a design-driven approach to architectural glass in the United States, specializing in custom mesh, fabric, and specialty laminated safety glass. We work alongside developers, builders, architects, designers, and clients to create bespoke glass solutions tailored to every space.

From luxury interiors and hospitality to retail, residential, commercial, and custom applications, we transform glass into a statement material , where craftsmanship meets innovation, and every project is built with precision, purpose, and timeless design.

This is more than a business. It is the continuation of a legacy, and the beginning of a new chapter.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey of building Luxus has not been easy at all. It came with a lot of uncertainty, sacrifices, and challenges that pushed me in ways I never imagined.

Leaving behind my home, my business, and everything I had built over the years to start again in a new country was one of the hardest decisions of my life. On top of that came visa issues, long waiting periods, and the struggle of understanding an entirely different system. Even after spending decades in the glass industry, I had to learn the business here from scratch, how things work, how people work, and how to build trust in a completely new market.

There were many moments where it felt overwhelming. Starting from zero at this stage of life is not something many people choose to do. There were setbacks, delays, and times when it felt like the dream was getting further away instead of closer.

But I have always believed that challenges are part of the journey. They teach you patience, they make you stronger, and they remind you why you started in the first place.

Even today, the challenges are still there. We are still building, still growing, and still finding our place. But one thing has never changed, the dream. It has never faded. If anything, every obstacle has only made me more determined to make it a reality.

We’ve been impressed with LUXUS ARCHITECTURAL GLASS, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Luxus Architectural Glass is built on decades of glass manufacturing experience, with a vision to push the boundaries of what glass can become. We specialize in custom mesh, fabric, and specialty laminated safety glass, working closely with developers, builders, architects, interior designers, and private clients to create bespoke solutions that are fully tailored to each project.

What makes us different is our belief that glass should never be limited to standard applications. To us, glass is not just a surface or a barrier, it is a design element with endless potential. Through custom lamination, specialty materials, and complete flexibility in scale, design, and composition, we are changing the way glass is used in architectural and interior spaces.

Whether it is a feature wall, partition, façade, furniture piece, ceiling installation, or a completely custom application, every project is built around the client’s exact vision. We do not work with off the shelf solutions.

What sets Luxus apart is our ability to combine craftsmanship, technical precision, and design freedom in a way that is still rare in the U.S. market, especially here in Houston. We are introducing materials, applications, and customization possibilities that go far beyond what standard laminated glass offers today.

I believe this is the future of glass in design, where glass becomes more than functional, and starts becoming one of the most important elements in shaping a space. Our goal is to help lead that shift and redefine how architectural glass is seen and used across the United States.

How do you think about luck?
I have always believed that luck can open a door, but it is effort that decides what happens after that. In my life and in business, luck has played its part, both good and bad. There were moments where timing worked in my favor, and many moments where it did not. Visa delays, setbacks, starting over in a new country, and facing uncertainty at an age when most people are thinking of slowing down, none of that felt like luck.

But I have learned that you cannot build a life or a business depending on luck. Luck is temporary. Effort, consistency, and resilience are what carry you through.

For me, every step forward has come from hard work, patience, and the willingness to keep going even when things did not go my way. If anything, the difficult moments taught me more than the easy ones ever could. They shaped my character, my mindset, and the way I approach business today.
