Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Morgan.
Hi Brittany , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Cartier Effect, formerly known as Slayed by Brit and later HairbyBrit C, began when I was just 12-13 years old. What started as doing my classmates’ hair in the back of the classroom eventually grew into styling clients from my parents’ living room. Even at a young age, I knew hair wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was my passion.
My love for hair actually started with my mom. When I was younger, she developed a hand condition that made it difficult for her to do my hair, so she would often pay to have it styled professionally. As someone with a very creative imagination, I always had a vision for how I wanted my hair to look, but the styles never quite matched what I envisioned. Almost every time I came home from the salon, I’d end up changing something about my hairstyle myself.
Looking back, I realize that those moments sparked my creativity and deepened my passion for hair.
As I continued growing, so did my clientele and my confidence. What began as a hobby quickly became a business built on passion, consistency, and the desire to help people feel beautiful and confident. Today, The Cartier Effect represents so much more than hairstyling—it’s a reflection of my journey, my creativity, and my commitment to helping every client leave feeling like the best version of themselves.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting a business at 13 meant I was learning as I went while still balancing school and being a teenager. As my business grew, I had to figure out how to turn a passion into a profession, which came with a lot of trial and error.
Growing up in a strict Caribbean household, hairstyling wasn’t viewed as a traditional or professional career path. My parents valued stability and education, and like many immigrant families, they wanted what they believed was the most secure future for me. While they supported me, they didn’t initially see hairstyling as something that could become a successful business. That only fueled my determination. Through consistency, self-investment, and a commitment to perfecting my craft, I was able to change not only my own life but also their perspective on what was possible.
Along the way, I also had to overcome self-doubt and learn to trust my vision, even when others couldn’t fully see it. Building a brand requires discipline, resilience, and sacrifices that people don’t always see. There were financial challenges, slow seasons, and moments where I questioned myself, but I never let those moments define me.
As The Cartier Effect continued to grow, I had to evolve from being just a hairstylist into becoming a business owner, mentor, and leader. Every obstacle has taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of betting on myself. Looking back, I’m grateful for every challenge because they shaped not only my business but also the woman I’ve become.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Cartier Effect is a luxury hairstyling brand built on creativity, confidence, and intentional client care. Since starting my business at just 13 years old, my mission has always been to create more than beautiful hairstyles—I strive to create an experience where every client feels seen, empowered, and leaves more confident than when they arrived.
What I’m most proud of is that The Cartier Effect has grown organically through consistency, self-investment, and genuine relationships with my clients. Every milestone has reinforced that purpose and passion can create lasting impact.
As my vision has expanded, I’ve officially launched Kartier Ko—with “Ko” standing for Kompay (Company). Kartier Ko represents the next chapter of my journey and a much bigger mission: bridging the gap between luxury hair solutions and medical necessity.
My ultimate goal is to work alongside healthcare providers and insurance companies to help make luxury wigs accessible to those experiencing medical hair loss. Whether someone is undergoing chemotherapy, living with alopecia or other hair-loss conditions, recovering from burns or trauma, or facing another medical challenge, I believe they deserve access to high-quality hair solutions that restore not only their appearance but also their confidence and sense of self.
Hair is deeply connected to identity, and no one should have to choose between healing and feeling like themselves. My hope is that Kartier Ko helps change that by making luxury medical hair solutions more accessible, more compassionate, and recognized as an important part of a person’s overall well-being.
