Meet Halle J of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Halle J.

Hi Halle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve loved makeup for as long as I can remember. I actually grew up in a salon because my mom is a cosmetologist, so I’ve been surrounded by the beauty industry my entire life. I started doing my own makeup around 14, collecting palettes one by one and teaching myself different techniques.

At 16, I uploaded my first YouTube makeup tutorial (which is still on the internet! 😂), and I also shared tutorials on Snapchat. By the time I got to college, classmates started asking me to do their makeup because they’d seen my looks and followed my content. That’s really where it all began.

At the time, I was in nursing school, but during COVID I realized it wasn’t fulfilling me the way makeup did. In 2020, I made the decision to unenroll in college and fully commit to makeup artistry and content creation. It was a leap of faith, but it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Fast forward six years, and I’ve built a full-time career doing what I genuinely love. Along the way, I’ve continued to refine my artistry, learn the business side of entrepreneurship, and create an experience that leaves every client feeling confident and beautiful. It’s still surreal that something I loved as a little girl has grown into the business I’m building today, and I’m excited to see where it continues to take me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say my journey has been a smooth road, but I also wouldn’t say it’s been filled with major obstacles. I’ve been incredibly grateful that makeup has allowed me to support myself and live independently from a young age, which is something I’m really proud of.

My biggest lessons have come from the business side of entrepreneurship. Learning to charge my worth, set boundaries, protect my time, and reinvest in my business were all things I had to grow into. As a business owner, you’re not just the artist. You’re also the marketer, accountant, customer service representative, and CEO.

I also experienced burnout. Early on, I was taking 10 or 11 clients a day on the weekends because I wanted to make as much money as possible. While it was rewarding financially, it wasn’t sustainable. Over time, I learned that success isn’t just about doing more. It’s about creating a business that supports the life you want to live.

Last year, I took about a year-long hiatus to reset, and returning this April reminded me how much I truly love what I do. That break taught me that rest is just as important as hard work, and now I approach my business with a healthier, more balanced mindset.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a professional makeup artist specializing in soft glam and natural glam looks. My signature style is a soft matte finish that enhances my clients’ natural features without making them feel overly made up. I want my clients to look like themselves, just elevated and more confident.

I’m known for creating long-lasting, flawless makeup that photographs beautifully and wears comfortably throughout the day. While I always customize each look to my client’s preferences, my specialty will always be timeless, natural-looking glam that enhances rather than transforms.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve been fortunate to have so many people play a role in my journey. Professionally, two artists who had a huge impact on my growth are Beauty Beat by Briya and DolledbyMorgan Taking their classes helped elevate my technique, product knowledge, and overall artistry. I’ve admired Morgan’s work since I was in high school, so learning from her was a full-circle moment.

My family has also been incredibly supportive from the beginning, and I wouldn’t be where I am without my clients. Their trust and loyalty mean everything to me. I’ve changed studio locations multiple times over the years, and they’ve continued to support me through every move, which is something I’ll never take for granted.

I’m equally grateful for my online community. Growing my social media platform has allowed me to connect with people who genuinely appreciate my work, and every like, share, booking, and word-of-mouth recommendation has helped me build the business I have today. I’m thankful for every person who’s been part of this journey.
