Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezra Hezekiah.
Hi Ezra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Ezra Hezekiah, a multidisciplinary creative and entrepreneur based in Houston. My work spans visual art, music, fashion, and poetry to name a few. With each discipline contributing to a larger, interconnected story. Several years ago I founded Province 8 as a creative hub where visual art, live music, creativity and community can come together. Today, Province 8 primarily operates out of the House of Blues Foundation Room, where my team and I curate a diverse range of events centered on live music and the performing arts. In addition to running creative businesses, I work with local arts organizations like Houston In Color, where I mentor artists and help lead grant programs. Whether through creating, curating, or mentoring, my focus is on strengthening Houston’s creative community and expanding opportunities for artists.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You know, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Early on, as I was building my creative career, I faced a lot of challenges—figuring out how to juggle multiple disciplines, finding steady support, and, yes, balancing being a father along the way. There were moments I doubted myself—when it felt like too much. But each struggle helped me refine my focus, from finding my voice as an artist to building a platform where other creatives can thrive. So, while it’s been tough, every step has brought me closer to where I am today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Province 8 is a creative platform I founded to bring together visual art, live music, and community-centered programming here in Houston. I opened a physical studio in Cypress in 2022, which allowed us to grow, but we’ve since closed that location as we evolve and focus on expanding the community. Now, Province 8 is a dynamic, flexible presence—we work out of the House of Blues, we do pop-ups, and we bring events wherever we can. What sets us apart is that we don’t rely on one fixed space—our strength is in the community we’ve built and the way we keep evolving. I’m really proud of how we’ve stayed adaptable in a creative landscape that is constantly changing, and I can’t wait to see where we land next.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Yeah, absolutely. I think one of the biggest things for me was really showing up consistently in the spaces where I wanted to grow—whether that was local art events, music or fashion shows, poetry lounges or even just volunteer projects. I also made a point of being really intentional—if I met someone I admired, I reached out with a genuine interest in their work, not just for something I could get from them. I think what’s worked best is being open, curious, and willing to give back—those connections form naturally when you do.
