Today we’d like to introduce you to Karenn Murga.
Hi Karenn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with B|A started in 2017 when I left the corporate world because I realized I was working just to pay for daycare. It felt like my entire paycheck was going toward childcare, so I knew I needed to find another way.
I grew up in an entrepreneurial family, so starting a business never felt impossible to me. I wasn’t afraid to try different things. I sold products like Scentsy and explored a few business ideas, but nothing really felt like the right fit.
Then one day my cousin came to me with the idea of creating breakfast boxes, and that’s where B|A was born. At the time, I never imagined it would become what it is today.
People often think I had a master plan from the beginning, but the truth is I didn’t. Every few years we’ve reinvented ourselves. We started with breakfast boxes, then moved into balloons and event décor, and eventually found our passion in creating modern signage, branding, and custom experiences for businesses and events. Looking back, I think our willingness to evolve has been one of our biggest strengths.
As the business grew, I also realized that I couldn’t do it alone. My assistant, Vale, has been such an important part of our journey. Together we’ve been able to grow the business, take on larger projects, and continue raising the standard of what we create. Having someone who truly cares about the work has made all the difference.
I’ve been lucky to have an amazing support system. My sister has helped me capture content at events whenever she could, which made a big difference in helping us share our work online. My husband and kids have supported me through the long hours, busy weekends, and all the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. I may be the face of B|A, but it has always been a family effort behind the scenes.
Looking back, every stage taught me something. What started as a simple idea has grown into something I never imagined. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, but I still feel like we’re just getting started, and that’s what excites me the most.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. I always laugh when people ask this because if someone tells you owning a business has been a smooth road, they’re probably leaving a lot out.
Working from home has been one of the biggest blessings, but it’s also come with its challenges. As a mom, wife, and business owner, there are days when juggling my family, my home, and client orders feels overwhelming. I’ve had to learn through a lot of trial and error, and I’ve definitely failed at creating routines and systems that I thought would work.
The hardest part for me has been learning to separate business stress from my personal life. When you work from home, it’s easy for work to follow you into family time. That’s something I’m still intentional about because I want to be present with my family while also continuing to grow my business.
At the end of the day, every challenge has taught me something, and those lessons have made me a better business owner.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in event branding, from creating a custom logo or event identity to all of the details that bring it to life, like acrylic signage, bar menus, welcome signs, drink stirrers, and other custom pieces. We love creating a cohesive look that makes an event feel unique and memorable.
What I’m most proud of is the reputation we’ve built over the years. We’ve had the opportunity to work on events for celebrities and brands like Delta Airlines and Tazo, and honestly, I still have those moments where I stop and think, “How did we get here?” When I look back at how B|A started, it’s something I’ll never take for granted.
I think what really sets us apart is our customer service. We don’t look at people as just clients—we build relationships. A lot of our event planners have become friends over the years because they know they can count on us. If a planner calls me stressed because something changed last minute, we don’t focus on the problem—we focus on finding a solution. That’s the kind of business I’ve always wanted to build, and I think that’s why so many of our clients continue to come back and refer us to others.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time at my parents’ salon. My sister and I loved being there all day. We even started our own little business selling chips to the clients. Looking back, it’s funny because I didn’t realize it then, but I was already learning what it meant to be an entrepreneur.
I’m so grateful for those memories because they taught me so much about hard work, customer service, and building relationships. Watching my parents run their business planted a seed in me, and I truly believe that’s where my love for entrepreneurship began.
