Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellis Mukes.
Hi Ellis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve loved editing and producing my own content since I was 10-12, whether it was making my own comedic skits, gaming videos, or just dumb YouTube challenges. I just always strived to be a creator of some sort since I dabbled in a lot of things. My high school, provided an outlet for me to express my creativity in film/video, which was the Audio/Video Production program. I signed up for it my sophomore year, and by my senior year, I was the head editor/general manager of the class. And by then, I’ve already started to master my craft in camera work. But it all started in 2024 when my talented brother Thomas, @thomasthesquare, bought a camera and just gave it to me since he wasn’t using it I guess. Ever since then, I’ve experimented with it by doing random shoots of my mother, Monet, my sister, Eryn, and my soon to be stepfather, Will. I soon realized that I had a gift given to me by God for not only photography, but also videography as well, thanks to the A/V Production team. I’ve already had the proper inspiration from my father, Ronald, who has been doing photography since after I was born. So for me to do something that he has done for a long time, I’ve chose to go through with it and keep making him proud since he’s taught me everything I know. Love you Pops! Things started to change for me in September 2025 when I decided to hop on the sports photography wave and shoot for my high school’s football team during the early season. Ever since the first game I shot, I went to more and more and more until I got fully used to being confident in what I shoot, then I started getting recognized for my work by many people. As of now at 19 years old, I’ve shot not only football content, but I also specialize in other sports (basketball, baseball, track, etc.), portraits, concerts, events, and a lot more. It’s only up from here, just wait because there’s no telling what God has planned for me!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not everything has been easy since the come up. Since I was born and diagnosed at the age of 3 of being on the spectrum, I was looking at not being able to talk or function properly like anyone else. But although I still struggle, here I am defining what it’s like to beat the odds, keep pushing toward my creative space, and not let anything get to me. Pretty early at the start and even now, I sometimes felt like giving up on my passion. It would either be that my work isn’t seen enough like I want it to be, the drive for shooting is gone, or I compare myself to others. I either have to tell and push myself to keep going and push through these obstacles that are in my way, or I have people around me that care for my dreams as much as I do to tell me to push as well. So I choose to not only do this for myself, but to do this for the people that has either passed on or just isn’t in my life anymore. Hopefully they’re seeing this and watching how good I do at what I absolutely love. It’s important to learn to do something with the intent of not getting anything back in return, but for the pure love and enjoyment of it. This is also an encouragement for people who has something that limits them and is passionate about something they love. It’s not the end of the world and there is absolute hope that you can do something great to reach your potential. Not only for yourself, but for the people around who hasn’t given up on you.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Right now, I specialize mainly in photography, but I’m dabbling into self-produced videography/cinematography. But I’m known for shooting mainly sports, portraits, graduations, prom, events, concerts, and hopefully a lot more! I’m really proud of the way I started and developed later on after doing this for 2 years. I constantly want to see myself apart from others and not try to look like a copy or somewhat simple, so it’s important for me to do something different from the rest. But I feel like I have a very creative eye in what I do because of the little and meticulous things I observe before arriving on the scene or before I post my work.
What are your plans for the future?
Right now, I really want to dive more into concert photography and shoot for more big artists. Don Toliver is a really GREAT example because of the amazing and psychedelic visuals that he was able to provide for his current OCTANE Tour. Also working on working for a news outlet or media publication to expand myself into a wider audience, contribute in anyway, and gain easier access to shows. But besides that, since I just graduated in class of 2026, I plan to attend community college for two years to gain my certificate in Video/Post Production, then for my remaining two years I want to transfer to the University of Houston and get my B.A. in Film & Media Studies in hopes to gain a position in a media production studio for films.
