Meet Avery Lucas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Lucas.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a 17 year old photographer located in the Houston/Katy area. My love for photography started when I became a frequent concert goer at 13 years old. I fell in love with concert photography and the way the photographer could capture and preserve the emotion of both the artists and audience. I was hooked, and that summer I bought my DSLR camera and enrolled in the photography class at my school for the following fall. Since then, I have become a freelance photographer and spend my time when I am not at school pursuing my passion of photography (though coincidentally have never done concert photography).

Please tell us about your art.
I am primarily a portrait photographer- I do both creative shoots and paid sessions, such as senior portraits, family portraits, or events. I would say that most of the time there is not a set message behind my work. I take pictures of things and people I find beautiful. I love empowering people, especially my fellow females, and hence they are my primary subjects.

I take photos that I hope clients or models will cherish and be proud of. I hope that my work makes them more confident in who they are or remind them that they are beautiful on a day when maybe they aren’t feeling their best.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
For any young artists, not just photographers, who are scared because they feel as though they are too young to pursue their dream, I say go for it. As long as you put yourself into your work, it will be worth it. A lesson I wish I would’ve learned sooner is to just go for it. Don’t hold back.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My work and booking information can be found on my Instagram and my website. I plan to start selling prints soon, which will be announced on either of the platforms mentioned above. Also, one of my photos was featured in the magazine Local Wolves for their “Wolfie Submissions” of the Fall/Winter Issue of 2017.
